problems formatting HDD with HDD utils

Hi, I have a PS2 modded with DMS3+ and the official Sony HDD tools. When I put the disc in and select format drive, it says "Please wait...Checking HDD" and it just hangs on that screen... does anyone have a solution? TIA

i just noticed that it does this same thing when i try and install DMS HDD Explorer

nevermind i figured it out :-( I had the PAL video fix on hahah
