Problem setting IP address using IPCONFIG.DAT
Problem setting IP address using IPCONFIG.DAT –
01-30-2006,05:49 PM
Can anyone help???
I have tried and tried, but I cant seem to get it working.
I have HDAdvance 3 and I cant seem to set the IP address.
I have created a file called IPCONFIG.DAT (tried upper and lowercase) placed it on the mem card in the root, in SYS-CONF, BADATA-SYSTEM and BEDATA-SYSTEM.
I have a pal PS2, so i have covered both bases by trying the path for US PS2's too.
Please help, anyone else managed to set the IP on HDAdvance 3, when it boots it keep using the default address which is crap for my net.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply wozza, unfortunately I can't seem to find anything that help explain why it doesnt work.
I have edited the text file on my PC which reads
192.168.200.20 255.255.255.0 192.168.200.1
renamed it to IPCONFIG.DAT and ftp'd it to the following folders on mem card
mc0:IPCONFIG.DAT
mc0:SYS-CONF/IPCONFIG.DAT
mc0:BEDATA-SYSTEM/IPCONFIG.DAT
mc0:BADATA-SYSTEM/IPCONFIG.DAT
I have tried renaming the files and folders using lowercase, but nothing sems to work.
HDAdvanced server (v3 pal) always nomatter what or where the IPCONFIG.DAT file is called or located it boots using 192.168.1.110.
Has anyone used HDAdvance 3 and got this working as the documentation is a joke with no deatils on how to change these settings for this version.
Regards

what your doing is right and it should be put in mc0:SYS-CONF
and it should work

you should put it in this folder: mc0:/HDADVANCE
just make it like this: mc0:/HDADVANCE/IPCONFIG.DAT

I had problems like this when I first started on the softmod.....I recommend trying to edit the IPCONFIG file for a hex editor, notepad's spacing could be slightly off, and this worked for me.
Worth a try.

----- snip ----- re: where to store IPCONFIG.DAT
The one that is important to normal PS2 homebrew programs is "mc0:SYS-CONF/IPCONFIG.DAT"
Btw: you should NEVER have both BADATA-SYSTEM and BEDATA-SYSTEM on the same machine. Some software may get seriously confused by that.
And you should never create such a system folder yourself. Let the console do it, automatically, so you know it gets done right. Then you can add files to it, without modifying what the console made.
I have tried renaming the files and folders using lowercase, but nothing sems to work.
These particular file and folder names should all use upper-case only.

Most probably they have patched the ripped code to ensure that it looks different from the program they ripped it from, all in the grand HDAdvance ripoff tradition...
So they probably need the file in some new folder because they patched that name string.
Has anyone used HDAdvance 3 and got this working as the documentation is a joke with no deatils on how to change these settings for this version.
Naturally. Since they have stolen all the code of 'their' programs, and only added some patched graphics and text, they can't afford to document anything clearly, as that would make the theft overly obvious...
I see no reason why you would need their server anyway. From what you say it seems that you can run homebrews and copy stuff to MC quite well. That being the case I suggest you use the utilities developed for HDLoader instead, since installed games of HDLoader and HDAdvance are identical. (Obviously, since HDLoader is the program that was ripped off in producing HDAdvance.)
What you need to do is to search for HDL_Dump, HDLD_SVR, and related files (including several nice GUIs). With these installed (part for PS2 and part for PC), you can forget the HDAdvance tools and stick to the real ones. You may still have to use the HDAdvance boot disc, if you have no mod chip, but for other tools you don't have to rely on that crap company.

Cool thanks for all the info everyone.....
dlanor, is it correct to assume that i can create an iso of the HDLD_SVR much like i did for ExecFTP and simply boot using the HDAdvance disk (i dont have a modchip) and run a decent HDLD_SVR that way?
I actually want to use a linux cli client to "squirt" the image onto the HD, which is the best version? i.e fatest and most stable; is it correct to assume that latest is greatest? I've worked with cisco kit before and know that sometimes latest code is bugfest.
Cheers

by the way, the HDAdvance:HDLD_SVR can load the IPCONFIG.DAT from the usb pen drive also, you can make it like this: USBPENDRIVE:\HDADVANCE\IPCONFIG.DAT

Yes, you can. I have used HDLD_SVR that way too, though I find it more convenient to launch it from LaunchELF (I do have a good mod chip).

Sorry, I can't really help you with Linux stuff, as I don't use it. I think that a Linux version of HDL_Dump can do all the same as the Win32 version, but I have no idea how well it works or what GUIs to recommend.
