I have a used Maxtor 80GB HDD that I am going to be using in my PS2. The network adapter is in the mail and should be here soon but I want to prepare my HDD before it gets here.

This HDD came out of one of my old PC's and already has partition's and data on it (nothing I want to keep) Can I just delete all the partitions and it should be ready to be formated with HDD loader upon first startup?

Well, HDL asks if u want to format the HDD, when he finds one which isn't formated in PFS.

But u can also format you HDD and install your PS2 Images with WinHIIP So your HDD will be ready when your Network Adaptor arrives and you can plug'n'play

    You´re right.
I just want to say, that the FS is "APA".
I think the "PFS" could be compared to mount-points (like when you see "hda", "hdb", or similar in Linux, or Drive "C:\", "D:\",... in Windows), but it is not the filesystem.

If you do format with Winhiip, be sure to choose the HDL 28bit format options and NOT the Toxic options.

Also you should select application override and reduce fragments in the options screen.

What about this? PFS stands for Playstation File System doesn't it?

Damn, than I switched both. ^^

PFS is the filesystem and APA the "Partitioning-System" to say it easy.
Maybe someone with more knowledge about it jumps in and can explain it in detail (+ probably correctly).

    Hmm...i somehow missed TnA's post.....

The file system is the general name given to the logical structures and software routines used to control access to the storage on a HDD, and for the PS2's IDE, it is PFS as ps2dragon said.

FAT/FAT32 is the USB filesystem for the PS2, although NTFS can be read by apps, its not writable AFAIK.

But APA is a partitioning scheme, like C:\, D:\, etc in windows.

I think TnA just wrote that backwards, but had the right idea.

I downloaded and formated the drive with WinHiip. I put 3 games on it so far, I don't want to put anymore on untill I can test it. Under "My Computer" it shows the drive as Fat32 with nothing on it and no used space. But under the WinHiip program it shows all 3 of my games and 61GB out of 76GB used. Does this sound right?

Yes the PC should not be able to see the drive under My Computer/.

Now it should be able to see it under Computer Management.

I have a video on my youtube page showing you how to format the drive back to PC compatibility if you decide to add a bigger HDD to your PS2.

The PC DOES show the drive under my computer, it's just showing that there is no data on it and no used space, but under WinHiip it's showing the 3 games.... I must have done something wrong then?

Can I just delete all the partitions and just wait till the NA gets here and use HDloader to setup the drive?
