    Dear all,
    I'm a newbie here. Could anybody tell me why I cannot boot from my MC?
    I have a mod-PS2 (V5, I think). I bought a network card & 30G hdd last week and mixed together.
    I downloaded HDL_8B_CD.rar and burned to an CD (from sksapps site, sorry, I cannot post the link). Everything seems ok, I can boot my PS2 from this CD, copy my favorite games, play games on the HDD smoothly.

    Next, I'd like to boot my PS2 directly from my memory card (MC).
    I downloaded this file HDL_8B_ELF.rar (also from sksapps site, I cannot post the link ) (HDL8B-MC.ELF = 620Kbytes). Rename HDL8b-MC.ELF >> HDLOADER.ELF, then do the following:

    1. Create SYSTEM.CNF
    BOOT2 = cdrom0:\HDLOADER.ELF;1
    VER = 1.0
    VMODE = NTSC

    2. Create INSTALL.CNF
    HDLoader 1.0
    mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER\HDLOADER.ELF
    _MKDIR mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER
    _COPY cdrom0:\HDLOADER.ELF;1 mc0:\BOOT\HDLOADER\HDLOADER.ELF

    3. burn 3 file (SYSTEM.CNF, INSTALL.CNF, HDLOADER.ELF) to an CD

    But now I cannot boot from this CD (that mean I can not play games from my HDD!, I still can boot from my previous CD to play my game on the HDD). I also cannot boot from my MC (obviously!). I don't know what wrong with my last CD.

    Could anyone help me? Thank you very much.

    What do you mean by boot from MC?

    Are you trying to install the independence exploit?

    I mean that I want to boot from my memory card (without the HDLoader boot disk). In other hand, I 'd like to turn on my PS2 and then play my farvo games without any CD/DVD (because my laser head is very weak now)

    Thanks.

    Booting programs directly off memory cards is a feature that many mod-chips don't have. Only the best ones (and some of their clones) have that ability. Without knowing exctly what chip you have, it's impossible for us to tell what your chip can do, or how to do it.

    Best regards: dlanor

    Most mods with the DEV2 option (the option to boot from the Mem Card) use the following path:

    mc0:\BOOT\BOOT(*).ELF

    where (*) can be a number 1-3 or can be nothing at all (i.e. BOOT.ELF).
    Booting this ELF sometimes requires holding a certain button during boot-up. If you had the name of the mod, we can probably help more...
