Playstation file system (PFS) creation

Have you tried TheDecline's PS2 HDD Utility v1.2 you should be able to add / extract files to and from the BOOT partition. It uses a old version of hdl_dump tool v0.2a so I don't know stable it is.

Yes, that would most likely be easiest. Only problem is that I don't know anyone with a modded PS2. No matter how easy it would be, it's quite impossible without the gear.

In my humble opinnion the easiest way would be the following procedure:
1. Get my hands on a primitive bootable PS2 drive image
2. Make a clone of the original drive to one of my spare drives
3. Boot with the spare drive
4. Install DEV.1 with my own console to a blank MC
5. Lay back and enjoy

Yes. I tried. It can't do more than hdl_dump, which means it can only write CD/DVD images to the disk.

pfsshell-0.2a too? it's a shame no one has made gui for it.

And as a matter of fact, I prefer CLI applications.

You maybe able to set the device id to localhost or 127.0.0.1 and have your hdd connected via IDE, IDK I couldn't get that to work though, it worked via my ps2 using hdld_svr and I could access the boot and system folders.

This pfsshell seems promising.

Actually you can use the same hdd naming scheme as numerous other tools. This wasn't documented (Why, oh why?), but it's quite obvious. Defined my 'device' as hdd1 and I could browse the drive. Excellent.

I uploaded and tried to boot a couple of different boot.elf's to hdd1:__/boot/, but for some reason I still only get a black screen when trying to boot from DEV2. Is there perhaps something I've missed here?

It seems that MI-Chips&Clones need to have the DEV.2 somewhat 'activated', by the 'DEV.2-Installer' first.

So,... The best probably is to get someone make an MC for you, sorry. :(

Would this be doable with an unmodded PS2? Or does the console have to be modded in order to be able to read the installer disk?

You don't need to install from disc, but you need a way to start Homebrew.

If you have a friend, with a Chip, SwapMagic, ActionReplay, FMCB or whatever..., that would help you.
Other than that, I can only suggest to get in contact with one of our FMCB-Install-Volunteers.

I came up with a thought... You see, I've a original copy of PS2 linux and the VGA-adapter ofcourse. IIRC, the memory cards are mountable from within the linux installation. I could borrow an unmodded PS2 from a firend who barely uses it, install PS2Linux to a spare drive and write that way the MC. Just a thought... :)

You'll probably notice at some point that I like challenges :P
