HDD (Hard Disk Drive)
---------------------
PGEN can be loaded from a HDD installed in your PS2, and can load roms
stored on the HDD. At the time of writing, the only application which
supports loading PGEN from the HDD is DMS HDD explorer. The HDD
Explorer installation CD comes bundled with PGEN, and if you boot HDD
Explorer with the installation CD inserted, you can choose to install
PGEN and other Dev.olution compatible applications from the CDROM.
HDD Explorer is available to DMS customers. Even if you cannot use HDD
Explorer to load PGEN from the HDD, you may still load roms from the
HDD. A utility such as the DMS HDD Dump tool may be used to copy roms
from a CD onto the HDD. You must first use the DMS HDD Format tool to
create a filesystem on the HDD to store the roms. You will then need
to create a CD compilation which contains all the roms you wish to
copy to the HDD. Burn as MODE2/XA. You can then use the dump tool to
copy the contents of your rom cd to your newly created filesystem on
the HDD. The DMS dump tool, format tool and HDD Explorer may be
downloaded from http://www.dms3.com
    This is from the readme.

So I have to make a new partition With DMS Format Tool. Then burn my roms and PGEN elf to a cd. Then DMS Dump Tool to take the files from CD to the new partition I made. Right? Then I just configure my LaunchELFso PGEN runs from the HD. I?m just thinking, as I have never used the DMS HDD Dump, does it let you choose were to dump the files or not?

The readme for PGEN is a little outdated. Any DMS created partition can store PGEN to run off of, and if you are running ELFs off the HD with LaunchELF, you can put PGEN on the same partition (any partition with the + prefix really) and store your game roms on that partition as well. You can transfer all this using ExecFTP.

Just so you know, PGEN also creates another partition on the HDD for save files.

ExecFTP, I don't use FTP, is there anyway to view partitions when you use an IDE to USB and connect the HD to PC.

FAQS on PGEN and HD support.

    1) ALthough PGEN will create it's own saves partition on the HD< yo ucan'yt use that partition for roms. it will ONLY see paritions created with hd format tool.

    2) Once you use dms format to create the partition, you can put roms on it. however, ps2menu 2.6 is a lousy tool for doing so, and you will be 99% likely to corrupt your partition while doing so. If yo uget execftp running, nyo uccan ftp the roms to the HD partition that way, and it should work. ALso, altimit might not have that bug that ps2menu does.

Didn't know PS2Menu 2.6 corrupts partitions. Does PSMenu-K 0.31 do the same thing?

Yeah the thing that I hate about PGen (along with PS2OS) is that it automatically creates a partition. I mean, it should give you the choice instead of wasting 500mb on your hdd. I'm sure it would come in handy for those hardcore sega gamers using it, but not for regular users.

Too bad it just doesn't create save files in the directory the roms are stored in.

I transfer everything to my hdd through ps2menu-k .31, with a burned cd works like a charm. I have over 200 roms on the hdd right now, and not a single glitch.

Is there a way to add PGEN to HDLoader?

What is HDLoader's criterias for entries? Is there a conf file anywhere that tells which games are available or is the menu a strange type of the unix command like "ls -1" of partitions?
