PC wont detect PS2 ftp
i have a ps2 hd and have execftps installed using hdadvance (no modchip). i ran execftps and hooked it up with my pc using direct ethernet but my ethernet card cannot detect my ps2. All my FTP clients have either a "connection timed out" error or a "no route to host" error if i disable my cable internet (connected through usb). Firewalls off, PASV is off, port is 21, login is anonymous, all the setup stuff is fine. The ethernet connection shows up as "disconnected" in my network connections. All the ip stuff was checked and double checked, as well as any hardware problems. Is this because i directly connected the ethernet card to the ps2 b/c i do not have a router to go through? Or maybe due to my pre-existing LAN with my other computer (through telephone network)?
192.168.0.10 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1
pc ethernet ip
pc telephone network ip
Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You're right. This is a problem with your telephone connection, it is sharing an IP address range with your LAN connection to the PS2. Try the following settings:
10.0.0.2 255.0.0.0 10.0.0.1 (A Completely seperate LAN)
pc ethernet ip (Same network range as above)
pc telephone network ip (Leave as-is, this wont' be a problem any more)
You will then have to connect to the PS2 using its new IP address, 10.0.0.2
Hope this helps
hay adavidm how do u change your pc ip im on xp and cant figure it out thanx for any help u may have for me
Thanks a lot for your input adavidm. I finally got around to trying the new settings, and unfortunately the problem still exists. yup, it sucks. i changed the ps2 ip and my ethernet ip, but still no connection. is the network settings icon suppose to have a red 'X' for the ethernet connection? cause I dont think the ftp client is even trying to access the ethernet.
Thank you for the help.
That red cross means the PC can't detect a link pulse from the PS2. It should disappear as soon as ExecFTPS is running.
Are you using the cable that came with the network adapter or one of your own? To connect a PS2 direct to a PC you may need whats called a 'crossover' or 'twisted' ethernet cable, unless your PC's Network card can flip the connection itself (probably not since it is not working). You can buy small adapters that turn an ordinary connection into a crossover one.
Let me know if you need any more help
wow, ur so smart :) thanks again, i'll go out to buy one as soon as i can. sigh, more money down the drain...
i have exactly the same problem with Mattzort. but i am not using the execftp but PS2 OS. the cable that i use is the one that they gave me with the ps2 network adaptor. is that the problem? what cable should i buy? how would i ask for it?
YES!!!!! haha, it works. adavidm, ur a genius.
Glad you're sorted
@Mattz0rt: No problem, I agree it sucks that you have to buy extra kit to make it work through your PC, since that is how a lot of people connect, Sony should have included an adapter I think.
@KallaiR: Just ask for a 'crossover' ethernet cable, as opposed to a 'straight' ethernet cable, or a crossover adapter.
One of these: Crossover cable
or one of these: Adapter
Neither should break the bank
@Everyone: If you have any general networking questions, I'd be glad to try and help, it's the least I can do in return for all help this site has been to me.
