  1. #1 Patching HDL...for what?

    Hi all,

first post here so you can assume I'm a newbie. I am

I've been reading the forums a little and I've noticed the number of threads that deal with the patching issue. But, in my case, that is, having an original HD Loader disk (don't know if CD or DVD), a non-modded PS2 and loading games via WinHIIP, what do I need to patch HDL for? Would I get something out of it? What about loading the loader in the memory card? Would it be useful?

On the other hand, I've seen some games that need to be patched but as far as I know (haven't patched any yet) that should be done using WinHIIP and a PPF file, isn't it?

Thanks in advance. This is getting complicated for me

    Still complicated for me.

Theres 2 types of HDLs that i know of:

HDLoader - the original CD/DVD disk.
HDLoader - The ELF file you use to run from the memory card.

There is various types of HDL ELF files with several patches like the god of war patched elf and the toxic one.
They are patched to help run some games on the HDD that wont work with HDL.

Some patches i dont know myself how to apply like the one here:
http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35652 (experimental hdl dual layer support)

Doesnt really say (or ive misread) if the patch is for the CD or MC HDL.
Ive tried using a clean HDL ELF to patch but it doesnt work for me.

Then some other talk about patching HDLDumb (a program like WinHIIP) to install DVD9 dual layered games.

I guess its for advanced users cus everytime i read there it goes over my head.
