I've got a spare WD 40GB drive I wanted to use. It's one of the newer ones with a slightly smaller footprint. The entire drive is black, anyone test one of these yet?

I've yet to meet a WD drive that would fit. If you want a good idea of whether a drive will fit or not, measure it...

Looking at the back of your hard drive, note the pins closest to the edge on both the power and IDE connectors (make sure they aren't bent!). The total distance between those pins on either edge on this handy WD drive I have here is roughly 90.5mm. The connectors on the back of the PS2 net adapter do have some play in them so they can accomodate slight variations, but from my measurements it will only accept a drive whose distance between the far pins are between 86mm and 89mm.

    Peace.

Will any Maxtor work? 5400RPM/7200RPM? 2MB/8MB?

Check out the compatibilty chart and look for your model. BTW, from what I heard, you can modified your NA to fit some WD drives.

Practically any recent hard drive that will fit onto the network adapter will work. Neither spindle speeds nor memory buffers are important in compatibilty.

    Peace.
