    Hi all,
    I have been a bit perplexed having bought a 2nd hand ps2 40gb drive ($ony)
I looks official and all, but I never got it to work with the ps2, so I just formatted it FAT32 and used it in an old pc.

now I am not asking where to get what, but I would like to know the exact names of the CDs/programs I need and instructions on using them to get this official hdd into a proper hdd that is recognised by the ps2 (mines is pal v10/11 (silver) and no mod, got the lan adapter and have a usb dongle etc).

    Please help!

    Thanks

you have to have the sony hdd utilities disc. there arnt many places to dl it so search hard. the site i used to know went down. so no luck there. technically if you can use the mc exploit of cd loader or swap magic you could swap the cd with a downloaded burnt version.

Sorry, but if you have a PAL console it just won't work.
Sony discriminates against europeans... Sorry, but that's a fact !
The HDD utility disc will only work for US or Japanese consoles.

Most probably they can use PAL resolutions on their consoles, just like I can use NTSC resolutions with my PAL console, but the japanese console standard is NTSC, not PAL. Not that the video resolution is the critical aspect here.

I assume the HDD utility disc detects if a european console is used and then refuses to do its work, regardless of any video resolution.
