Hi. I know this might seem like a dumb question, so please bare with me. I've got a softmodded (ps1 disc exploit) PS2, model SCPH-39001/N (NTSC-U). I've also got a non-sony 40gb hdd installed in it, and have a modem/ethernet broadband connector on it. I know that with the sony hdd's, you can boot into the browser and it shows the hdd in there, and you can manage game saves and stuff. Is there any way of doing the same thing, but using a non-sony branded hdd instead? I'm already able to play games and elf files off the hdd, so that's not a problem. I tried using a HDD Utility Disc that I downloaded off the net somewhere, but aparantly it'd only work for a sony branded hdd.

I dunno if this helps, but this is my PS2's version information:
    Console: SCPH-39001
    Browser: 1.20
    CD Player: 1.20
    Playstation Driver: 1.10
    DVD Player: 2.12U

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

You can only do that with a modchip that supports atad patching.

Crap. Looks like I'm gonna have to order a chip then... Oh well. I've been planning on ordering a DMS4 EZI Pro or another chip anyhow. If anyone else knows a way to do it, feel free to reply.

Also, anybody know if that version info is the latest/most up to date? And if it isn't, how would I go about updating it?

    Later,

You know that the Sony HDD utility disc will format your hdd the first time you will use it, right?
You can only manage your savegames with the updated browser, nothing that ulaunchelf can't do...
The playstation driver won't be updated by the hdd utility disc, only the browser and cdplayer.

Yeah just use uLaunchELF to manage your saves. There's nothing that good about the Sony HDD browser. All you can do is backup your saves.

Not strictly true. You can also install one game that doesn't run at all under HDLoader-- Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.

Which is just an arcade port. Not the PSX port. =( I was wanting to do the world tour mode, only to find it not there. ,_,

A big strength (i think) of the browser backing up saves is that you can see what PSX saves you're backing up. uLaunchElf lets you see the names on PS2 saves, but not PS1 saves. =( Unless there's a super secret someone wants to tell me.

ATAD patch only allows games that LEGITIMATELY SUPPORT THE HD to work on a NON-SONY HD. That's it. No save to/from HD unless the game supports it, and I'm not personally aware of any that do.

As for SFAA, yeah, it's an arcade port, but one with a feature not in any home version-- Hyper SFA. That's the best part of the package, really, and the only reason I don't call it a total botch job.
