Non official or official??
Non official or official?? –
OK ... im sure this question has been asked, and I tried searching, but I guess I just couldnt come up with good search parameters ....
Heres what I want to do....
I have a non-offcial Sony HDD, and I have an Official Sony HDD, so therefor I have the Sony HDD utility disc.
I also have two PS2's (Well one is my fiances), and we both play Socom online.
When you enable the HDD option in Socom, it creates a 256mb partition on the hard-drive, that it will store maps and other downloadable content inside that partition.
I know I wont be able to make my NON-Sony HDD show up in the PS2 browser or such, but is there a way I can make Socom2 Detect it so that my fiance can play the new maps?
And if I cant make Socom2 detect, is there anyway I could pull the entire partition off of my Official Sony HDD make an ISO of it, and then slap that on the Non-offcial HDD via HDL dump??
Non-Sony HDD requires modchip with ATAD patching turned on. Then you could install Sony HDD Tools and also have SOCOM2 recognize it as a normal HDD.
No ATAD patching, PS2 will not recognize the HDD except homebrew proggies...

So unless somebody creates a patch for the save file, unofficial HDDs are totally dead for socom.
I dont think you guys understand the question ...
Im not trying to get the Socom game itself to work off of the HDD .... I have to ORIGINAL copies of the game .... for each PS2 ...
Im simply just trying to get Socom to recognize an unofficial HDD.
With my official HDD, and can get the partition that the game creates off of it, Im just wondering if I can manually inject the partition off of the official HDD onto the unofficial HDD??
i think phreaker meant that in order to get PS2 recognize the HDD as an official HDD with new browser, etc from the Sony Tools.... u need to enable modchip patching - which is being detected by Socom2.
if u'd juz like to see ur as official outside the game load, just enable atad patching. if u have the chip.. but u can't play games that checks for modchip, since it has to be on.
if i've understood this incorrectly, please help shed some light, thanks! ray:

Phreaker47 is right. There is no way to do this anymore. The new socom II patch checks for patched games, along with modchips.
In order to use a 3rd party hdd for socom...you have to have one of two things or both:
1. Auto-ATAD patching modchip...to allow you to use 3rd party hdd as official, in
which will result in a cheat error on the socom online for use of modchip.
2. Patch the atad file on the disc...which again, you have to have a modchip to
backup disc with the patched atad file. Again, resulting in a cheat error.
So...to answer your question scubasteve, it's not possible.
after i auto patch it. can i put the hdd in a on chipped ps2 and still have it be recongnized in browser.
