    Hi,
I have recently purchased a Network Adapter for my Fat PS2 (39003), and whilst it runs ok over ethernet (SMB with OPL r455), no HD is detected. I have a fair few spare HDs, ranging in size from 20gb to 250gb, and I have tried them all. Each one I tried with Jumpers set to Master, and then Cable Select. 4 of the HDs were on the HDAdvance Compatibility list as working, too. I have loaded each one with uLe, HDLoader & HDAdvance, to try and detect, and then format them, with no success, yet everyone I tested was definatly powered up, as I could hear them come on, and also they were slightly warm when I removed them.

I'm guessing the IDE block on the Network Adapter must be a dud, but I am no where near experienced with this, so am kind of hoping somebody with more expertise at this, could offer an alternate suggestion. :/

(Not sure if it makes a difference but the Network Adapter i purchased is one with only a single Ethernet port, not Ethernet & 56k Modem port.)

Any ideas would be greatly welcomed, or definitive answers off someone experienced in internal HDs for the PS2, telling me it is definately broken.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi!

Have you check the micro pins of the adapter connector?

I got 2 broken pins, but was able to fix that.

    Maybe that would help...

    Rgds.

Thanks for the suggestion, mate, but the pins seem ok upon inspection .. I'm growing more confident in the assessment of the IDE block being broke, the more reading I do about others problems (and lack thereof) with the Ntwork Adapter. It seems that at leat one of the HDDs I tried should definately have worked, according to a few compatibiliy matrixes.

It was an ebay buy so I'll probably just cut my losses and stick to SMB for a while, as I've been made redundant recently and cant really afford to buy another, and the one I did buy I am reluctant to send back to the Ebay seller,as I wont even have SMB then.

Have you tried connecting to pc first, then use Winhiip 1.76 to format them?

Sorry for the delayed reply, been in hospital, but out now.

I tried each HDD with master jumpers on, and also with CS, with no joy.
At least 3 of the HDDs are on the compatibility page, one of which rated as very good & recommended.
I formatted the 3 on that list via Winhiip 1.76, using my PC, but still HDLoader says 'cant detect drive' and uLe's HDD Manager says HDD connected=No.

At this stage I took the shielding off the adapter to check the connections to the IDE block, but it looked fine. I tightened all the screws just in case, then retried it, but still no joy.

As the ethernet port on it is working I'm ptresuming the PS2 connection is working ok (all the pins are fine), and as such I'm guessing the IDE block is not working for some reason. :/

Oh well, guess I'll have to get another when I can afford it (redundant atm & broke)

Thanks for the suggestions though. :>
