newbie help... hdload exploit in MC (done) install games (failed) –
Hi, I just got the idea of hooking up a hard disk couple of days ago, bought my HD (western digital) and modified the N/A to fit.
(I've searched but haven't got a clear idea)
I've installed the hdloader to my memory card and it was successful since I tested it (now booting up with my ps1 game). There seems to be no problem except that I cannot install my back up dvd's, cd's and original cd's (says not a valid ps2 game or some sort). In short only my original ps2 dvd's work (atleast 2 that I tried). BTW, I have a ps2 v7 and magic 3 chip in there if that matters.
Can I use ps2menu-k to boot the hdloader that was already installed in the MC would it read the back ups and original cds?
I actually have no idea, I just read somewhere that it's better to use the ps2menu first then I can go to anywhere I want from there. Help! thanks

you may want to use one of the dump / dumb / HIIP-whatever programs to stick games onto the HDD, then just use HDLoader to play them...
well...ps2menu is better in one way...because after ps2menu boots...you can have your choice of other ELF file to load up...like Pgen or SNEsStation or HDloader....like Gflare said...if ya can't get your backup into the harddrive, use a PC software to do it....
Check my bros site...it's simple but get the message across...IMPORT LOVERS...CAR THAT IS...
I would really want to use the hdl_dumb for installing all of the games but right now, the dvd drive is screwed.. Thanks for the help guys, I've got it working properly and installing all of my games.
I came into conclusion that if I boot using the exploit (with original ps1 game) it won't let me install the other medias, but if I booted using the ps2menu and run hdloader, it will install all the media. I have no idea why, but anyway I got it up and running. ps2menu GUI is hard.. and I just lost all my saved games before I had the chance to back it up to the hard disk.. oh well, let the games begin!! ps2n... ahem ps2-scene
i might* have a clue on what's happening
this happened with my friend's ps2 (who i'm helping with getting in the MC exploit into his ps2 also)
I have a matrix infinity chip on a v9 and i direct boot everythign
for his ps2 with an unknown chip (he got it done in Hong Kong)
he needs to press the eject key or somethign to boot up original ps1 discs
problem is once his chip 'helps' the ps2 to load ps1 discs... the system is now in ps1 mode. and even if he tries to rip an original ps2 game it won't authenticate in hdloader cuz hdloader uses part of the ps2 authentication (now 'modified by the chp') and it'll look at a ps2 disc as a non-authentic disc...
dunno if that made any sense.
just my 2 cents.
but glad to hear you got to install the games with a work around.
That's exactly what I thought! So I made a disc that boots up on ps2 mode which is the ps2menu.. sad thing is it took me around 20 min to learn the GUI and erased my memory card.... yep, i'm a newbie
wow im suprised nobody caught on to this yet.
ok heres the problem, you cannot just pop in a backup dvd or cd and expect it to read and install. you have to pop in a TOC disc press install and then swap with your backup cd or dvd game. if you dont know already the trick with swapping it is, to not let your ps2 know that the tray has been opened. just unscrew the top of your ps2 and the top of your laser and take out the laser top whenever you need to swap.
you dont really need your dvd-drive to install games using hdldumb or winhiip, it also supports ISO images
