Don't resort to this until you know for sure it is the soldering! You can check this by using a 120GB drive or smaller, I promise.

It is with the Sata adapter. I have bought a total of 6 of the Sata HDConnect adapters from maxdiypower.

If the IDE one works perfectly with large hard drives then I should really get one because I am getting sick of the 28bit limitation problem with this product.

What other Sata adapter have you used for the v12?

Again, if your soldering is right then the small hard drive will work perfectly every time.

Did you compile OPL on your own, or are you just using the binary available on the official site?

Either way I would like to try the OPL binary you are using so that would be nice of you to upload it.

I have installed 4 of the 6 adapters that I have bought and they all function exactly the same with 28bit hard drives working perfectly and 48bit being very finicky (often freezing on HDL splash screen, and not working at all with OPL).

Also, since I am skeptical, you should post a video of it working! If you do a video, make sure you show restarting the PS2 multiple times with the list of games loading EVERY TIME.

I'm using an official binary. All i can code is some asm, and not very helpful in PS2 things
And it's the latest version. v0.8

I'm sorry but i can't post a video, since i've sold both PS2s i've modded with this HDD mod.

But i'm a little confused that it should not work with 48bit, since i got it to work.

Dunno if it did work because i had just couple of games installed, that took less than 10GB space.
First time i got a 2,5" 500GB HDD, with HDL installed games. Using only HDL.
Second time, 3,5" 320GB HDD, with HDL installed, and .ISOs(not at the same time). Using HDL and OPL.

And by the way, just by showing the game list in OPL or HDL does'nt mean you got it working. You gotta try some games. I've had that problem couple of times. And both were about power. 2,5" did'nt have enough power from USB, so i took it elsewhere. And on 3,5", i needed to put thicker wires/increase voltage, not over 12V though, on my bench supply. Dunno if it's about power on your cases, might be anything.
I'm installing FMCB in Finland. I'm installing modchips for PS2, Xbox360, Gamecube and Wii, in Finland. I live in Finland.
I love Finland. My country is Finland. I work in Finland. I was born in Finland.

Heh I didn't notice these 2 posts on a new page. Nevermind anyway I've finally thrown the towel in on this and most likely PSTwo sata altogether.

I've tried everything now, even took the pcbs off and resoldered them back on. Looks like my PSTwo is doomed forever to IDE.

I would have if I had a 120GB drive or smaller but all I have atm is 3 x 160GB. The main reason for me wanting Sata on my PSTwo was to be able to install drives larger than the 250GB IDE that I have installed presently so to be honest 120GB or smaller just wouldn't cut it for me unfortunately.

My 250GB IDE has worked great for me in ToxicOS, Patched HDloader and OPL on the very same console that I tried to install the Sata kit on but IDE are expensive and lower capacity compared to Sata and are in short supply too.

First I tried some cheap ones from ebay without any success. Then I ordered the Acard one discused on another thread here which also didn't work and then the Sata kit from this thread. I haven't tried the Delock adater that people seem to recomend yet, maybe I will give it a try one day.

Thanks for the advice anyway but I've given up on this one now. If I can't get 3 x 160GB drives to work reliably on 2 diferant adapters then I give up. Some things just aren't meant to be.

Modchip is not needed, works with FMCB.
But with same work, would'nt you install an modchip too? They are so cheap nowadays.

So what's the final conclusion on this product? From what I've seen, several people here claimed to have ordered it, with only a few stating later on what their results were. Of those few that posted their results, the majority had issues making this work with sata drives over 120 GB (those people being j4m3js, kel, and jmjohnson85). Only MysTiCy posted positive results, having used a 320 GB IDE HDD (I don't count prelude since he didn't post anything specific). Unfortunately, we can't even really count MysTiCy's results as being "positive", however, because he only had 10GB worth of games installed, and it was an IDE drive at that.

All in all, this sounds like a dud unless of course someone else has some results they haven't posted. So what should we turn to in order to use SATA drives with our slim ps2s?

It's actually really freakin sweet if you can deal with the 120gb limitation. The way I see it - if you really need to use a slim PStwo and you want to play your games through OPL then this is the best solution. You will have none of the gameplay lag/choppy issues like with USB or SMB. Here are some pros and cons of this product over a Fat+IDE HDD.

    Pros
+Install games using WinHiip @ SATA Speeds
+120GB 2.5" SATA drives are cheap and easy to find
+Your console is still tiny compared to a Fat PS2 (saves space on your entertainment center)
+You have the better reliability of the Slim CD/DVD drive (debatable but from my experience Fat consoles have more DRE issues nowadays)
+Your console is now pimped by your kickass console modding skills! (could also be a con though if you have no skills...)

    Cons
-Only 28Bit format on these drives is fully supported by OPL/HDL meaning you can't go higher than 120GB (unless you can deal with the issues I mentioned in my previous post).
-You could mess up your system in the process.

The bottom line for me is that this is the only worthwhile solution for using a SATA drive on a v12. I understand the sentiment of having a library of all your games installed on 1 storage device and if that is absolutely necessary than this is not a good option. I used to feel that way, but since then I have realized that I do not need to have every single game playable at any given time. Being able to have my most-likely-to-play games installed works just fine for me (you can usually fit anywhere from 30-50 games on a 120GB drive).

I have been thinking a lot about this product lately though (since the release of Cobra for PS3) and I kind of feel like this option is now (or at least soon to be) obsolete if you own a BC PS3. Being able to play PS2/PSX ISOs from HDD in 1080p on the PS3 really blows this solution out of the water. So hopefully PS2 ISO support will become a standard feature of CFW soon, and maybe this new software emulator of PS2 games that Sony is just now rolling out (PSN PS2 Classics) will get hacked and even slim PS3 owners can play PS2 games from HDD. I will have no use for this PStwo SATA product anymore if and when that all happens.

That sounds really sweet, let's hope that goes through. The reason I'm interested in this is because I plan on trying to make a PS2 into a handheld, so I'ma need to use a slim in order to minimize the size, and it would be nice to be able to use SATA with it. I'll look into using HD Combo with a delock adapter I suppose.

Doesn't OPL already support 48-bit LBA? So shouldn't using a modern copy of OPL with this kit work with large disks? If it doesn't, it's probably an issue with the kit itself.
