Hi I've been looking around the forums from 3 days now, combing around to find information about PC to PS2 network configuration, rather than doing the take the HD out and plugging it into my PC, which I'm currently doing. I thought this would probably save me tons of hassle in the future. I only plan to insert backups games only.
What I have:
UNmoded PS2 v.5, a working HD in it.
HDAdvance v2.0 (retail)
router
"wireless connection" from my PC to router
Well from searching the forums I have come up with, people using programs such as Ulauncher ELF, hdl_dump. From what I've found so far is people have been installing Ulauncher ELF onto their HD, then running it. Then using a FTP client from the PC to access the PS2's HD.
Another I found was to use hdl_dump/hdl_dumb to connect to the HDD. (I'm confused on this one since I couldnt find anything about how the PS2 would recieve anything).
What I plan to do is:
1) Load hdld_svr onto my PS2 HDD
2) hook it up to my router, and config router to assign the ps2 the ip.
3) Use hdl_dumb-0.8.3 to transfer my backups
If only life was so easy eh. Though I havent tried this yet and probably wont until this weekend. I have a few questions regarding this and hopefully to new memebers who come seeking for answers too.
1) Does any of the infomation above seem wrong to you and if so please tell me.
2) What is the proper or the best solution to this.
3) How would I access the PS2 from my PC which runs on a wireless connection to the internet?
P.S. I was also interested in this Update HDLoader thing, what does it do and whats included.
1) everything looks good, exept for outdated hdl_dumb/p
2) your idea is good
3) you need ethernet cable that will connect your ps2 to your router (regular ethernet cable) or pc (crossover cable)
thanks for the reply kidman64, just to make sure. How do i go abouts connecting my PC directly to the PS2 HD(PS2 jacked into router hardwired) since I'm on a wireless connection. For instance I have my PC set to connect specificly to the router. Do I instead set my PC to pin-point the IP of the PS2? Thats probably the main thing that gets me lost.
i'm kind of confused here (maybe i didn't understand you completly). Your pc is connected wirelessly to the router, and the same router is connected to the ps2 via ethernet cable, right? If that's the case it's all good (i guess). Have you tried connecting to your ps2 via pc? Like ftp or hdl_dump?
AFAIK, PS2 homebrew cannot use DHCP; that is, it cannot ask your router for an IP address, but you should select a static one and stick it in the proper configuration file.
You lucy I came across this thread because I cant tell you what you need to know. This is how you hook your PS2 to PC using wireless hardware and to also share your internet conection, It took me almost 3 weeks to get it working correctly. I would also suggest you download ps2client loader and disable all firewall software until its up and running.
1. Connect your router to your ps2 with eithernet cable (not in modem part)
2. Install or connect you network adaptor on your pc.
3. configure you network adaptor TCP/IP to lets say 192.168.0.1 with a submask 255.255.255.0. This is you gateway to your PC though router
4. Once you are conected to your router log into the config (This should be in your manual or a sticker on the base of the router. This is an ip address for seting up your router, set it to use as access point mode. In this screen you can then select a new ip address for the router say 192.168.0.5
this will be the new ip for router config
( acess point mode disables routing and give the conection a direct path)
*this is where I had trouble. I could conect to the ps2 but internet would not work until I enabled this feature*
5.) Boot and load ULauchelf on PS2 and setup your network settings as follows.
192.168.0.1 (This is your PC's IP address)
255.255.255.0
192.168.0.2 (This is the PS2's IP)
Hope your still with me
6.) Install PS2CLIENT loader on your PC at the top it has a section where you input the IP adress of you ps2 input the above ip adress. Select the drivers or media you would like to see over the network and select start.
7.) In ulauchelf start the network service. To find it goto browse and go down to the bottom where it says MISC. Select PS2 net and wait a bit. Go and check on the computer it PS2CLIENT has turned from a red icon to a green if it has this means you are conected, ps2 ping replys can also be seen here. Now go back to your ps2 and browse host try it a few times as it takes a while for the files to show up (I hold my finger on the button)
8.) Now try using SMS media player. Load SMS up and it should connect pretty fast.
9.) Now on your PC side (with ulauchelf network loaded, stay in lauchelf) type FTP://192.168.0.2 now you should see the files on your ps2. Cool Huh!!
Hope you got all that working if not well PM me.
THE INTERNET
To get the internet working you must enable internet conection sharing to do this do the following.
1.) Select the Adaptor that has the internet conection you want to share in network conections and select properities then click on the advanced tab and enable internet conection sharing. This will say say stuff, just click ok and proceed then select settings and enable all boxes.
if everything is working you then should have a shared conection your wireless conection and a new icon called Internet Gateway all should say there conected.
Now where done. To test it load a network ps2 game or some other ps2 program that access the internet and give it a shot.
I am also going to post some pics too
Good Luck
