Need some help installing a compatible HDD.
Need some help installing a compatible HDD. –
I'm trying to install an IBM DTLA-305040 40 GB HDD in my PS2, which according to this is compatible. Unfortunately, the first time I tried to format it using HD Advance, I get an error saying no HDD was found. Then, when I try to install it using HDLoader, it attempts to format it but then fails and the second try gave me the same error as HD Advance did. I am running both programs off the MC exploit.
The HDD is from my old (broken) computer and still contains the files from Windows XP and is NTFS-formatted. Should I try to format it by running it on my new computer as a slave drive, or will the *** HDD-Format tool do the trick?
Thanks in advance.
PS: the HDD isn't broken, as my computer still detects it while in slave mode and it does spin up and then down again when I boot my PS2.

If it was me - and I'm not saying this is the answer - I would put it in my PC and try to wipe it clean. I would then try and format it again.
samee but first try winhiip that might do the trick
I've never tried Winhiip. Does that let you format the drive?

that is true ( master) also yes win hiip will let you format a drive
Yes, it's set to master. Unfortunately, winhiip didn't help either. I formatted it successfully (both with quick and full erase) and even tried formatting it as the PS2 file-system and pre-installing a game on it, but I still can't get HDL or HDA to detect it.
Have you tried another hda/hdl elf file?
Your HDD just might not be firmly seated in the NA. Make sure it's in tight. If it's off a little bit, it won't be detected.
It's already in really tight (not too tight though... wouldn't want to break it :P). I unfortunately don't have any access to other hda or hdl elf files, as I don't know where to get them.
