Hello, i have Free MCBoot 1.8, and HDLoader 3.8c.elf installed on my FAT ps2 memory card, with a Sony HDD. I used HDL Dump Helper v2.2 to transfer my backup games locally through a external case. Both games i have tried have a GREEN 100% Compatibility on SKSApps, but when i try to play on or the other, they go to a black screen.

    1. Ring of Red [PS2cd]
    2. Aliens Vs Predators: Extinction [PS2dvd]

I have tried these both on ESR with ESR Patcher and that didn't work either. I cant figure out whats wrong, but the games do work, since i had a friend try one of my backups. So it has to be my configuration.

Can anyone help me fix this problem.

    things you need.

    1. install games via Winhiip 1.7.6. It's the safest option with the usb hdd enlclosure.
    2. HDL 3.8C is a ripped off re-skinned version of 0.8c. Snag it either here or sksapps.

but your install method is most likely screwing with you on this.

What do you mean by install method, do you mean Free MCBoot, HDLoader, or the means of getting the file on my hdd. If its the harddrive, than winhiip should solve all problems probably? Thanks for your quick reply also. I'll try both suggestions later on, Im replying to make sure i understood what you meant.

alright I've tried WinHIIP 1.7.6... it doesn't seem to work. How long does it normally take to load. I'll try switching to HDLoader 0.8c in awhile. But i don't think it's the way of installing them unless im doing something wrong. I reformatted it with WinHIIP and have it set to 24bit. Everything said ok. Any other ideas except the ones you gave?

you have to select the hdd manually via winhiip. it doesn't load up the hdd automaticly.

once hdl load it the first time after an install, it has to repopulate the list, which can take a while depending on how many games are installed and how big the hdd is.

What i did was this, unplugged hdd from ps2, put it into my pc external case, turned it on. loaded winHIIP, than i selected my 40gb sony hdd lol. I than reformatted the ps2 hdd for 24bit, and gave it the default settings. I than mounted my 2 backups that are bin format to daemon tools, than copied each over indiviually, for their format the cd and dvd. Than i turned my hdd off, unplugged it, put it back into ps2. Turned it on. Free MCBoot loaded up off my memory card, loaded HDLoader 3.8c not 0.8c yet. Than the list populated i think because it showed both. I than played both. It goes to a black screen. Ps2 doesn't seem to freeze, just hangs and never goes anywhere. I only have them 2 games installed. Thanks for your replies!

Because you are using a original Sony HDD you need to the following :

You have to go into the FMCB configuration,
Go to the Configure OSDSYS Options,
scroll down and change the Skip HDD update check: on/off.

Everything works, both suggestions worked. Thanks for telling me that my hdd had to have update check off. I must know though, can PS1 games be played off hdloader? or any other way. Because i dont wanna modchip my ps1. Or swap discs.

As of right now there is way to play PS1 games from a HDD. key words is
"right now". Possibly this year there may be a way. Right now the only way to is use BREAKER PRO " HARD TO FIND" or a PS1 game shark..
