Here's one way to format the hdd:
-connect the hdd to the pc
-open Winhiip 1.7.6
-choose "select drive" (be sure to select the right drive)
-choose "format drive"
-install some games
-put the hdd back in the ps2
-launch hdl

1. PLEASE STOP using topic titles like that! 99% of the ppl here 'need help' !
2. u need HDLoader to format the HDD in your PS2
or u can use winhiip to format the HDD in your PC.
3. To boot HDloader on your PS2, u will need a modchip or the INDEPENDANCE EXPLOIT
