02-09-2005,07:53 PM
I've been trying for a month now trying to get my pc to read my ps2. I've tried countless faqs and threads and they all say to load execftp to the ps2 and then run hdl dumb or some other ftp progs and still doesn't work but anyway.....
I run execftp on my ps2 on it say mumbo jumbo about changing my IP and connected to port 21! did everything I was supose to but I don't see and options or anything to do anything like file tranfering or nothin.so If anyone could post a pic of what execftp looks like of what happens next maybe I could see whats going on. sorry if you cant understand my rambling

o god...ok zelopast execftps is a SERVER. what that means is turns the ps2 into a server that can receive data from a CLIENT based from your pc. what you do is once you get execftps up and running, you connect a cat45 cable to your router and do necessary configurations or connect a crossover cable to your nic card. from there you run an ftp client software like flashfxp filling in the appropriate ip address and checking annoymous. after this you can look at files inside the ps2 memory card and/or hard drive and change them as you wish.

I did all the configering (changing IP's all that stuff) of course and I connect the my cross over cable to my ps2 and it says failed to find host and all that bogus stuff. when I have hdl dumb running while execftp is connected it cant even reconize anything. what could I be doing wrong, I did everything that everyone else did/says (of course not because it doesn't work)

if you are trying to connect to a router you need a straight cable. other than that check annoymous and passive mode off. i use flashfxp latest version and it works fine.

I am having problems with this too, I am connecting to PS2 with a crossover cable DIRECTLY to my PC's ethernet card (no router). ExecFTPs launches fine, but then I can't get FlashFXP to connect.... it appears to connect initially, but no files/directory shows up and then it loses the connection.

try configering your firewall if you have one..i've had this problem before

like troubleshooting basic network...u go from the first layer...
1. Check physical connection, if u're using the cross cable...then i should've been fine.
2. Check IP configurations... what IP does it says on the screen that your PS2 is having?
Default of ExecFtps is 192.168.0.10....
just make sure that your PC is within the same subnet
eg.
if PS2 is 192.168.0.x netmask: 255.255.255.0 (let's say 192.168.0.10)
then your pc has to be 192.168.0.x netmask: 255.255.255.0 (192.168.0.1)
the 255.255.255.0 thing means the first three octets out of the four are the "NETWORK" address...and the last octet is the "CLIENT" address
basically the 192.168.0 of both PS2 and PC means they are in same subnet
3. Trying pinging the PS2's IP
4. Check the firewall softwares...make sure the pinging (ICMP) and FTP (TCP 21) is allowed.
don't bother using HDl_dump in the time being....just use normal pings and FTP's

Just a few basics...if u already know...skip this..
There are two ways of config'ing IP addresses, Dynamic (DHCP) and Static
- DHCP is when your computer is set to obtain IP address which is automatically assisgned by DHCP servers. This is like in ISP scenarios.
- Static is when u explicitly tells Windows what IP to use and stick with it.
So...before i'll suggest you to configure windows IP staticly...bear in mind that such static IP will not work if u decided to use your PC, Labtop to your office where there'll be a likely chance that DHCP is being used.
follow this link...XP is kind enough to provide alternate IP setting Where if DHCP (as default) is not found...it'll use your Static IP instead
Here
Once you've configured your PC/Labtop's IP
goto Start >> run >> type 'cmd'
at c:\ type ipconfig to confirm your ip
then connect the cross cables PS2-PC, boot PS2 and u should get some connections
