I'm having this weird problem with my PS2 formatted HDD.
It's an 80gb Seagate. (specific model is not relevant)

I always use an external hdd enclosure to install games on it.

Just recently, my PC (WinXP pro) failed to properly detect the hdd. I used the word 'properly' because, the 'safely remove hardware' icon did appear, but when I click on it there's nothing, as in no hardware to be safely removed.
I went into the Disk Management and it's not even there.
I even used a data recovery program, and still the hdd couldn't be detected.

    However!

When I replug the hdd to my PS2, it worked!
My boot mode is dev2 and it went straight to DMS HDD Explorer. I opened HDL and booted a few games. The games worked, but I have to say that I didn't test them extensively.

Just now I put the hdd in the external enclosure again, and I could hear a spinning sound, it's like 'tick tick tick tick'.

I've yet to plug it back to my PS2.

    Your opinions, please?

I'd give an 80% chance of that HDD completely dying in the next two months. Somethings wrong with one of the heads most likely. I'd guess the ps2 is less picky about read errors and whatnot, but I do know a clicking HDD that randomly doens't show its contents is living on borrowed time.

I'd suggest wrapping it in an antistatic bag, seal the bag up completely, then putting it in the freezer for a few hours. QUICKLY get into windows (if you need to xfer files), and toss it in the trash, or on ebay for a few bucks as parts only.

As for the mem stick - sometimes I deal with rediculously slow WinXP installs that show the icon, but don't show the thumb drive for 5-10 minutes, if at all (reboots often needed).

    I see...
Oh well, since it's still under warranty, I guess I can RMA it? After all, I didn't drop it or anything, and there are no signs of physical damage.

Yeah backup what you have and RMA it. I believe that has a 5 year warranty. They may even hook you up with a bigger drive. I know Western Digital did that for me. Sent them a 18.7 gb 10,000 RPM SCSI and they told me I'd get a 100gb but actually got a 160GB
