Must PS2 stay horizontal after fitting HD?
Must PS2 stay horizontal after fitting HD? –

Never had occasion to wonder about running a HD on other than in horizontal position as that's how they all are in my PCs.
I used to keep my PS2 vertical but not sure how the drive would like being run on its side (If it's model-specific then it's a Maxtor 250Gb).
Thanks

The HDD should work in vertical position too, as long as that position is stable, but there is one problem with this.
If you're using a non-Sony HDD, then you will not have the mounting brackets these come with, meaning that your HDD is simply sitting on the 'floor' inside the PS2. But when you turn the PS2 around to vertical position the HDD will effectively be 'hanging' in the PSU and IDE connectors. So you may want to add supportive pads of some kind on the lower side of the HDD, unless you can get hold of real mounting brackets of course.

Thanks dlanor, that's a really useful tip.
I did notice some rattling a bit when I was moving it about and realised the drive wasn't very secure in there, time for some judicious cork usage!
Cheers

So why can't we buy mounting brackets for non $ony harddisks that fit the ps2?
I really would like to buy a couple of those.
Also, use a vertical stand if you want to keep the ps2 vertical. The side with the hdd and network adapter is much heavier than the other side so the ps2 can easily be tipped over.
