ah i havent been back for a while, ive just been lurking the forums for hdd info. anyways- i have a wd400 40gb drive that i want to hook up to the ps2, i was disappointed when i saw wd400 listed as incompatible on all the listings, but when i looked at some of the comments they got it to work by modifying their network adapter. does anyone have any clue as to how to modify their na?? ay my network adapter will be arriving next week, so.. any help would be much appreciated. TIA.

You basically have to move the power plug to make it fit with your HDD....not an easy task by any means.

Actually, I have been looking into it and it IS an easy task. (with extra cords)

You just need an IDE cable, and an PC Power Suppy extension cord. Then you just need to slip them out of your console (either cutting a hole or anotehr way, I havent progressed this far yet) and connect to your HDD.

What I want to do with this is have an IDE cable with multiple ports on it, have several HDD's connected at once (not all working at once though). Then I choose which I want to use, and plug the power supply cord into the chosen one and boot the ps2. (It will only see the hdd with the power plug in it.)

ahah good point, i think i have enough room in the expansion bay to just keep the cords in there.

it's actually a simple mod just unscrew the connectors. use a torx 6 screw fit to wd drive

yea i read somwhere about this but never found a detailed guide. do you still have to cut something off the adapter?

I got my WD40 to fit simply by bending the metal slightly on the sides of the IDE and power conenctors on the NA. This was just enough that with a little force, made the hdd fit.

oy, bending the outer metal just doesnt cut it, i need the torx screwdriver which i dont have right now. my network adapter arrived today, hooked everything up using a my maxtor hd, booted up with hdloader 8mb and voila, ffx-2 backup works and right now im in the middle of installing a backup copy of RE: Outbreak. damn i need that screw driver, i want to use my wd drives.

thanks for the link, it helped a bit since i found these directions in another forum:

This is how I got my WD 120 to fit.

Remove the 6 screws holding the metal cover on. Remove the screws holding the power connector down. You'll need a T6 Torx bit for this. Toss these two screws. Cut out the left side of the hole that the power connector slides through so that you can move the connector horizontally. Put the metal cover back on.

hope that helps; i need the screw driver though.

Update: ok i got the wd to fit and it works fine. It seemed kind of glitchy though, the first few times i booted hdloader would freeze at the menu, but after installing one game it works fine.
