I just picked up a HDD from a friend for a good price. I installed it but he lost the HDD util Disc. It is showing up in the browser, i can edit and change files, but i cant install FFXI due to the fact it needs to be formatted again. Is there anything i can do to get around this without modding my system in any way? I called sony and they were reluctant to send a replacement but its not gonna be here for a week or so since i live in FL and the hurricane season is in dull swing.

Now i know im a total newb and im more expierenced with Xbox (im a regular at the sister site xbox-scene) but PS2 alterations are not something im too awfully intrested in. I just want to play FFXI

Im pretty computer savy so if there is a way to alter/edit files directly (wich from what i have ready there isnt) from my PC mby connecting it i would love to be pointed in the direction of that discussion.

if the best method is to wait for my replacement disc than i must wait =(

Edit:I dont actually know anyone personally with a PS2 HDD. I have been playing FFXI on the PC since its aug release and just was looking forward to playing on my large TV as apposed to my 19" monitor

why doesnt someone make a resident elf program that patches atad.irx in realtime when its loaded off a ps2 cd/dvd or applies a ppf/patch in realtime during booting of the game?
Im sure they had to program something for the DMS3 chip and put it into the ICs?

With an official drive, the downloaded disc should work anyway.

As for the program. Its entirely possible, as hdloader can mount a partition as a drive, so basically anything can be done (as you mentioned, dms3) however SOME persons may have problems with an app that could do that. SOME person may automatically dislike it and because of this, you will not be able to receive it, and brainwash the masses not to like it either.

haha and no i did not jsut make that up.
