I had a 120g maxtor 7200rpm for a few days in my system also ...but after two hours of Ratchet and Clank GO the entire thing seemed like it wanted to get ablazed... so i stuck an old 60 mator 5400 rpm and everything was fine ... there was also no difference in loading compared to the 7200 (that i experienced anyway)

yeah. the ps2 doesnt fully take advantage of the 7200 rpm, 5400 rpm wouldn't make a difference. but even with my 5400rpm hd it still gets pretty hot in there after an hour of gameplay. =\

I am experiencing the same problem with my Maxtor 6Y060L0 60GB drive. Maybe a hard drive rack would help cool the drive a bit more.

Find a low-profile (3/4-height) 5400 drive. If you have more spare cash, you can even try a notebook HDD with an interface converter.

i think if yer wanting to use the ps2 with hdd ,and are wanting the hdd to stay cool your best of using a external ide caddy with built in fan(s) , find a good one. and use a ide extender male-female , and a power extender.

of course that requires modding the ps2 case as the NA will be in the way.....

no modding needed, im sure a ide male - female will thread down back op ps2/network card, also the power cable will do same.
