    Hi,

when I formated my HDD with WinHIIP I created a __Applications partition for future use, to put my Apps in there.
But now I'm kind of lost ... how do I access this partition ? Can I do it via FTP ?
And how do I create new ones? like this +OPL Partition for covers?

    Thank you!

The normal way would be to use the FileBrowser of uLaunchELF (aka: uLE) and simply browse to "hdd0:/__Applications/".

But to copy stuff you would normally start by browsing to some other device, such as "mass:" or "host:" (networked PC) so as to mark files/folders and then use the "Copy" command of the R1 menu to memorize the currently marked objects, after which you would browse to "hdd0:/__Applications/" and use the "Paste" command of the R1 menu, to transfer all the memorized objects. This Copy/Paste procedure is a little bit like the clipboard of Windows, though very differently implemented (since we have no OS).

Can I do it via FTP ?
You could do that, using the FTP server built into uLE, but that is slow and awkward compared to simple (and much faster) copying from "host:" to transfer the same stuff from your PC.

And how do I create new ones? like this +OPL Partition for covers?
    That is very simple:

    1: Start uLE
2: Press the launch button for "FileBrowser"
    3: Navigate to "MISC/"
4: Move highlight cursor to "HddManager" and launch that subprogram
5: Wait for the partition list to be read in and displayed (can take a while for a big HDD)
6: When the HddManager is displayed, open the R1 menu and use its "Create" command
7: Use the virtual keyboard displayed (or a USB keyboard) to enter the name "OPL".
(Don't enter the "+" character, as that prefix is added automatically for user partitions.)
8: As you end the string entry with OK you will be prompted to enter a size, which you can do using DPad Left/Right for small steps (128 MB) or L1/R1 for larger steps (1 GB). But don't worry too much about it, as it is possible to add more size to a partition later.
9: As you end the size entry you are asked once more to confirm the creation, and when you do confirm it the process starts. And when that process ends your partition should be ready for use.
10: Exit from HddManager by pressing 'Triangle', taking you back to the main menu of uLE.

Later on you can select the new partition in the HddManager list and use its R1:Expand command to add more size to it, so there is no need to exaggerate at first just because you think you may want larger size later. You can add that size when the time comes instead, as long as some free unpartitioned space remains on the HDD.

NB: NEVER use the R1:Format command, unless you really want to reformat the entire disc.
Individual partitions do not need explicit formatting, since that is done implicitly, as part of the partition creation.

You have full control over 'user' type partitions, which are the ones with '+' prefix.

What can be done with the other types varies, but do be careful in what you try to do.
Removing partitions can be a one-way street, as uLE is only able to create 'user' type.
So if you manage to destroy some other type of partition uLE can't restore it.

I didn't say that. What I said was that it 'might' not work, and that if you do remove it and then change your mind, uLE will not be able to create a new partition with the same name, since that is a 'system' type partition ("__" prefix)

You can always try removing it with uLE's HddManager. If it works, then fine.
That is not a standard partition required by any software, so it wouldn't be missed.

OK, just checked if I can remove "__Applications" I created with WinHIIP, but uLE doesn't let me, the option "Remove" is greyed out, so no chance there .
But anyway...maybe one day I wipe it all again create a fresh one

    Thanks again!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: OK I created a "+OPL" and "+Emu" partition. So now I need t o ask two things:

    1) How to transfter stuff via FTP from my PC to PS2? When I go to "/hdd/0/" and want to enter my "+OPL" partition I land here -> "/pfs/0/", whats going on? Do I somehow need to mount this partition? If so how ?

    2) I have absolutly no idea how this HOST:/ stuff works ... where to configure anything? How can I give the PS2 my PC's IP adress within the network?

    Thanks again!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT 2: Strange things going on around here.

@dlanor: I am the guy who asked you this FlashFXP Memory Card thingy in the uLE Forums if you remember.
So I did connected actively to my PS2 and everything seems fine now.

So the thing is inside "/hdd/0/" there are 4 Partitions now I can see with FlashFXP:

    Code:
    dr-------- 1 ps2 ps2 0 Jul 6 22:36 __applications
    dr-------- 1 ps2 ps2 0 Jul 6 22:36 HDLoader Settings
    dr-------- 1 ps2 ps2 0 Jul 19 01:33 +OPL
    dr-------- 1 ps2 ps2 0 Jul 19 01:34 +Emu
HDLoader Settings is currently the only partition with files inside. Problem is, if I enter this partition with FlashFXP it redirects me to "/pfs/0/", but it shows me nothing. If I now do a right click -> Refresh, it shows me the files inside.

If I now open "+OPL" for example, it again redirects me to "/pfs/0/" but lists me the files that are inside the "HDLoader Settings" partition

Do you know whats going on there?

EDIT 1 and 2 are driving me crazy

    Thanks again!

Have you tried to remove it with the command-line utility "hdl_dump"?
You can get it at http://hdldump.psx-scene.com/

    Straight from ExecFTPs_v0.69's info.txt:
    How to access harddrive-partitions:

    - To handle files in Common Partitions(marked with + before name in ftp-client)
or System partition (marked with __ before name in ftp-client) on your hd you first
need to mount them to /pfs/0/.

+MOUNT Example (with Ctrl+R in FlashFXP):

    "SITE MNT /pfs/0/ hdd:+MYFS"

this row mounts the common partition on hd named "MYFS" to /pfs/0/ . After this just go to
/pfs/0/ and handle your files in that partition.

    +UnMount Example:

    "SITE UMNT /pfs/0/"

This command unmounts the previosly mounted partition.
