Little problem.. –
03-21-2005,12:03 PM
Ok, I've had a successful HDD setup running for a couple of weeks, booting LaunchELF with my Matrix Infinity's DEV mode, and launching HDLoader (or any other ELF) from there.
Recently, any ELF launched from the HDD won't load, nor will ELFs launched from another source that require the HDD (HDLoader, duh :-P) work.
LaunchELF attempting to launch any ELF from my ELFs partition just freezes on 'Loading HDD modules', and HDLoader launched via LaunchELF from my USB flash drive just freezes on a blue screen with some loading text.. I can't remember what it was at the moment, I'll check later if need be.
Now, my theory is that the network/hd adapter is borked, 'cuz the HDD works fine in my PC, opened it fine with WinHIIP and hdl_dumb, even added/deleted games. I've reseated it in the PS2 a ton of times, no change.
Adding to my theory is that my network adapter setup disc also freezes on boot.
Now, before I run out and buy a new network adapter I just wanted to get some advice from you guys on what the problem was based on what I've written.
Thanks in advance

Sounds like the NA to me as well... if the HDD works in your PC i'd say it's NOT the hdd...
do you hear hdd activity on bootup? have you tried re-seating the devices?

make sure that the molex (power) and data connectors on the na are ok one might be broken or have something in it

Yea, the HD spins up when I try accessing something on it in LaunchELF, yea, I said in my first post I've tried reseating it multiple times.
And the molex/ide connectors look just like they were when I got it.

Well I swapped out the network adapter with a brand new one, and low and behold, same problems, network disc 3.0 sits on loading forever, same with anything trying to access to HDD.

jumper settings don't make a difference, even with the HD out, and the network adapter in (both old and new), the sony disc just sits on loading..

so maybe it's neither? if you have a game like starwars battle front or even midnight club 2, you can create network settings with at least those games.. I know there's more out there, but i don't know off hand..
try that method - i recall having a pain in the ass time with the sony network disk as well, it froze on me many times...
another place to check is the docking port on the ps2 itself, where the NA connects

i've taken a look at the port, can't see anything noticable wrong, blew some compressed air into it and nothing.. i'll try a few games i have with network stuff tonight or tomorrow
