Of course they would install and play, why wouldn't they. And LOL, sorry but a patch so that they will be translated in english? lol, to make that possible someone would have to know japanese and hex edit a patch to change the text to english which in most cases is pointless. There are stuff like that for old snes etc. roms but you won't find anything like that nowadays for next gen consoles. Sorry!!! Just gotta play through without knowing whats going on if you don't know how to read Japanese.

it's possible but it's really hard to do with ps2 games since you can't ejmulate the game your trying to translate on your computer, so everytime you wanna try sth you must burn the files to cdvd and this takes too much time, noone has that much time to waste

but you can always look at gamefaqs

some games have FAQs which help you go trough the story

People are attempting it, but it's harder to do with the newer systems at this point in time. Phantasian Productions has been having trouble keeping staff with the skills to hack in the replacement script and fonts they have for the PS1 version of Tales of Phantasia. You don't just simpley replace the text, as a translated script is likely to be a different size than the original. You have to reprogram the game to know where the translated lines start and end, along with making sure they fit on the screen. You also have to make sure that your reprogramming doesn't introduce any additional bugs into the game, and if it does, you need to fix them.
