Installing Imports

OK, I have managed to figure out how to install the MC HD loader exploit with no problem. Now, I have about 4 Japan Import games I would like to install on my PS2. I tried using HD loader V1.8 All in one patcher to modify the ELF file so I can get familiar with it. I have problems when I try to re-pack it. I always get a 0kb file size.

1. Is there a patch that can solve the import problem?
2. Can someone tell my why I keep getting 0kb file size when patching the elf?

It is Impossible to use the swap trick to install imports on your PS2. This may work with the HD Advance but it does not work with HD Loader or Free HD Loader. I currently use Swap Magic to play all my imports and I've tried everything to bypass the disk checking but it is impossible.

Check the other threads and do a search...there's many posts about how you can do what you need it to.

I've been searching and reading threads here for 2 days.
I haven't found anything that explains how to patch the HDL or HDA for installing imports.

I know there are other programs that will allow me to transfer ISO's via ethernet or crossover cable but I haven't found anything on installing them directly.

There's no difference when installing backups or imports....You'll need to do a cog swap to install anything other than originals.

Why not just rip the HD out of your machine and install it with any of the tools here and save yourself the trouble of installing via cog swap.

Nope, can't use cog swap either...

I know, I've tried.

Even tried using the DMC demo disk.
Also tried SM DVD, SM CD, Burnout 3 demo, FFX-2 game, MGS2 demo, etc...

Here is why the cog swap doesn't work.

HDLoader always does a disk check when you try to install a game to the hard drive.
It doesn't matter when you use the swap trick HDLoader always checks for the proper disk.

If you try the swap before you press install HDLoader checks for a PS2 disk.
If you swap a disk after pressing install but before the install begins, ex. when creating a name, the HDLoader software will simply lock up.

How can learning to use new software, unplugging the PS2, disconnecting all my devices, bringing it over to my computer room, taking the case off my computer, connecting it to my motherboard, then disasembling everything and re-installing it into my PS2 goign to be easier???

Wouldn't it be easier to just press install? (ex, HDAdvance)

Well that's not true. I have a pretty old swap chip, neo2, that opens up the tray when I hold reset when I turn on the system and let go at a later point. When the tray comes out using this method, the ps2 simply doesn't register it as an eject, so it's pretty much like using a fliptop or knife/card trick. I can use this method to install backups using hdloader just fine. I have to press eject(still holding onto reset) after i go to install and put in my dmc2 original. Then i wait around 15 secs and let go of reset and swap in my backup when the tray comes out. The installation just continues like it would with an original and all my backups install fine.

Pretty much everyone else out there got it to work that way when it first came out. As I remember from other threads....you gotta have your original in there at least 12 seconds before hitting install. Not sure...don't have HDL or HDA.

Well...I can tell you this much...putting it in your computer means less frustration. :D

So; basically, you are using a Neo 2 to do this?

I don't want to install a modchip of any kind.
I like my slide tool just fine and see no reason to install a chip.

I want to be able to use the HDLoader and install my imports.
Looks like I'll be forking out $40 for the HDAdvance since no one seems to know of any other way to do this.

I still don't see how it is going to work because HDloader always, always, always does a disk check.

yes just a neo2, the main step is to trick the ps2 into thinking that you really didn't eject. Try putting in your dmc demo disk after you've pressed install, and then wait about 15 seconds and then use the slide card trick to eject the tray. I'm not sure how the slide card trick works, but if you're needing to press eject to close the tray, then I'm pretty sure that that's what's causing the problem. You've got to swap in your import without touching the eject button, if you really can't do it, you can always just go get a fliptop.
