Other reason I am wary of Winhiip is that it seems to not deal well with HDDs that have official SONY software installed (like for example FFXI and PlayOnline) which I use regularly.

I've hooked my official Sony HDD with the software up to it and never had an issue.
I've never had any problems using an Official Sony HDD with Winhiip either, but as the saying goes...."to each his own".
I can understand if someone personally dont like Winhiip, thats not why i commented, i just didnt think Winhiip deserved such a posting saying it was dangerous to use, as that gives noobies a bad thought about using it, which is not good IMHO.
Everyone who uses Winhiip was a noobie the first time and very few people ive ever read had any issues using it.
