Umm... I'd say it's probably not worth the effort.
From http://www.wisoft.sk/files/software/...dformat1.1.txt
It's not enough space for a single DVD-5 game, it's enough for maybe a couple hundred mp3's and a handful of CD games...Not every HDD will be supported by the homebrew HDD drivers which the DMS Format tool uses. Your HDD must support at least UDMA4 and SMART commands (see your HDD specifications to check if your HDD meets the requirements). Most modern HDD's will meet the requirements - in general, if the HDD size is at least 10gb then you will be able to use it in your PS2.
Get a decent drive from newegg.com or Best Buy, they regularly have rebates. You can get an 80GB for <$50 or 160GB for <$75.
Set the drive jumper to CS (Cable Select) or Master, format with DMS Format Tool for homebrew or HDLoader will format it for you.
This is assuming you have a memory card exploit or modchip installed...
BTW, welcome!
edit: LOL, welcome both of us! I swear I had posted on here before but I guess I have just been lurking here for months w/o contributing.
i also have an extra 25gb HD setting around, i was only hoping to use the 4gb one like a large memory card if i could :lol
