With buying a 2.5" hd and an adapter I think getting a 500gb 3.5" hd would still be cheaper. I quickly checked on 500gb 3.5" IDE hd's on Pricegrabber and they were at around $100. If you are willing to go for used and referbished you can get them for about $75. I also saw some on ebay for about $50.

You're not thinking long term. IDE HDD's are not being manufactured anymore. SATA is the norm now, so when this cheap IDE you want to get dies out and can't find it anymore, you're gonna have to find an alternative.

actually this thread was about finding out if an Hitachi HDD 3.5 IDE was a decent drive...
you lot ran off with the SATA ideas.....good ideas but i did post a link to one of those threads earlier.
and as someone posted earlier a big enough 2.5 SATA drive is not cheap plus adaptor and fiddling around to fit it.. i would rather buy a couple of IDEs and leave a spare on the shelf...
