Sorry about the title but I'm really in a hurry(tomorrow I'll buy a new hdd and give the old one to be able to buy the new one)

1.If the hdd is new,not formatted at all,do I need to make a full format 48bit(for 500gb hdd) or quck format won't be a problem?

2.Can I after that use the Copy Drive button on WinHIIP to copy everything from 160gb hdd to 500gb hdd...will there will be some problem(I don't have DVD9 games on it but it's full of games and music/videos)?

3.If I can't copy the drive, how to backup my codebreaker cheats that are on my hdd.

    The new hdd is
    HITACHI 500GB/7200/8MB IDE
    HITACHI GST Deskstar 7K500 500GB 7200rpm 8MB cache Ultra ATA-133
and I already asked to deliver it tomorrow at the shop.

1.you shouldnt have problems doing a quick format, but I would full format it just in case

2.There shouldnt be problems(im assuming you will have both hds connected so the transfer will be directly between them) even if the transfer isn't direct and you have to copy everything to your pc drive first you shouldnt have a problem.)

3.this one is a bit trickier(but not too much), if winhiip cant "see" the codebreaker info, you could try to access your hd from ulaunch and copy your codebreaker info to a USB.

Do you have a partition specially made for saving your codebreaker data?
V7 ps2, flip top, 2x 8MB sony memcards, FMCB 1.8b, ESR r9b, Cogswap, Hdloader0.8c, 250 gig Western Digital, poorly modded(but functional) network adapter

1.I want to make full format too but I don't have so much time..I bet it will take at least 2 hours or more(I think).I have to give my old hdd to the shop.

2.I'll connect both hdds but I don't have so much free space on my PC hdd to copy there everything first and I think the button "Copy Drive" is to copy everything from one drive to the other(old hdd to the new one)

3.I can't see the partition with WinHIIP but I can see it with Ule(I'll try). But how the partition will be saves...as image or how.

Edit:...ummm how to copy the codebreaker partition,I don't see any option for that in ule.The partition is visible only on HDDManager

Yes I have partition for codebreaker,he create it every time without asking if the partition is deleted or doesn't exist. But when I try to enter the hdd using CodeBreaker,I don't see anything there

That form of copy is only appropriate for copying data from one dedicated PS2 HDD to another dedicated PS2 HDD. It is not intended for copying to an HDD used by a PC for non-PS2 purposes.

Your best backup of HDL games, when a 2nd drive is not available, would be in the form of the original discs from which you can repeat the original HDL/WinHiip installation again, just as you've done before. (It does waste a lot of time, but is guaranteed to work.)

3.I can't see the partition with WinHIIP but I can see it with Ule(I'll try). But how the partition will be saves...as image or how.

Edit:...ummm how to copy the codebreaker partition,I don't see any option for that in ule.The partition is visible only on HDDManager
The CodeBreaker partition does not use normal PFS filesystem methods, so all attempts to access it from the normal FileBrowser would crash the CPU (crashing in the fileio modules of the IOP). That is why partitions of this kind (also includes some others, like HDL partitions) have been blocked from appearing in the uLE FileBrowser.

The HddManager can show them and perform some operations, but full partition copy has never been implemented and is not planned.

Yes I have partition for codebreaker,he create it every time without asking if the partition is deleted or doesn't exist. But when I try to enter the hdd using CodeBreaker,I don't see anything there
If it is as you say here, and the only use you have made of that partition is what CodeBreaker did automatically, then you might not lose much by ignoring it, as CodeBreaker will recreate the partition to hold the built-in cheat list (inside the elf too). But if you ever added any new cheats of your own, then those will also be held in that partition and will be lost when the HDD is removed or reformatted.

Unfortunately CodeBreaker does not have separate commands for saving/loading the cheat collection from different media, so I have no method for even saving it to MC, which is the alternate location from which CodeBreaker can use it when no HDD is present. It can be tricked into first loading the cheats from MC (with user-defined cheats) and then resave them to HDD, but I don't know any way at all to do the reverse, which is what you would need now... So I'm afraid you are going to lose those cheats and may have to reenter them again manually, for storage on the new HDD.

    Best regards: dlanor

Well yes I'll have two hdds which will be formatted to the PS2 file system and I already understand that by looking at the WinHIIP help file

And about codebreaker...I edited my codebreaker and remove all of the cheats that are integrated in it.All of my cheats are added manually from cbc files and they are saved into the codebreaker partition.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you ones told be how to backup the codes that are on the codebreaker partition.

And can you also answer the first question in the first post(that's the most important for me)
I'm going to make a quick 48bit format and add one game and then test the hdd on my ps2

I see, but if cbc files work for you then you can simply add them in the same way again. Personally I have never been able to make any cbc files work with any of the CodeBreaker versions I've tried (the lot), so I really don't know what to do with such files... Possibly this requires one of the CB versions that refuses to run with my modchip (DMS4).

I'm not 100% sure but I think you ones told be how to backup the codes that are on the codebreaker partition.
I kind of doubt that, as I don't know how to do it. I do have a procedure for making the transfer from MC storage (which I use on my slim PSTwo) to have the same codes stored on my PS2 HDD (as used with my fat PS2), but I have no way of doing it in the reverse direction. Saving will be done to MC only if no HDD is connected, and disconnecting it while running (after loading the cheats from HDD) would not be safe.

And can you also answer the first question in the first post(that's the most important for me)

Unfortunately it was so long ago since I formatted a PS2 HDD that I can't remember the time difference. But quick formatting probably does work, as raw formatting is usually done at the factory. I'd try it anyway, and if there is some problem I'd negotiate with the store for slightly prolonged time to turn in that old HDD.

That will probably take a lot of time because I have cheats for at least 50 games

I know how to backup the cheats if they are saved to the memory card but not how to do it if they are on the hdd.

Well I wasn't asking about how long it will take,I only needed to know if it will work in that way because it will probably take a lot of time if I do a full format.

After I add one game and test the hdd if it work,if it's ok I'll use the "Copy Drive" button and after that "Selected Image Copy" because it will take looooong time to add 140 games to the hdd by first making an image and then install it(some of the games even requires shrinking or editing to make them work)

    Finally...after 3 days(10 hours every day)of installing games I finally finished
51 games copied from the old hdd to the new one and the other 72 games by ripping them from the disk.

Everything works fine(it took me 5 minutes to repopulate the list and it takes 35 seconds to display the list from cold start).

Good to hear everything worked out. So i guess the time it takes for hdloader to display the list depends on how many games you have on your hd. Did the copy drive option work?

Yes...when you click on that button a menu popup from which you choose to copy the whole hdd or only the selected images.Since I already installer 4 games manually to test the hdd I used the option to copy the selected images(it took me ~3 hours to copy 140gb games)
