  1. #1 Question I have HDLoader and GT4..... and am so very confused
    Speed-Freak Guest
Holly shiet is this forum insane in all the technical information provided. If I understood more than only a part of it it would prolly be even more usufull, but I dont.

Ok, I have an old crusty V1 PS2 (yup, its lived ) and I have the original distro of HDLoader. Been using it happily just sticking games on the HDD to play load free. I still use Sony memory cards.

I find lots of posts about the end step, but all the posts assume the reader has a base understanding of the process, few sites have working tutorials (this sites are broken) and finding a n00b introduction is hard. Even the tutorial stickied in this forum I was lost after page 1.

All I am looking to do is get GT4 to play off my HDD.

I have found, I can re-compile the iso of GT4 to single layer, and install it directly to my HDD with HD_Dump, but will my HDLoader version read it?

The references to the patched HDLoader are confusing me. I ran through a video tutorial I found and burned a ELF file that was linked here, but my PS2 dosent recognize the disc. Seems I have to apply that ELF to an existing HDLoader, I think. However, I cant patch the HDLoader I have. I have to get a cracked HDLoader off the, umm somewhere?
With the patched HDLoader I would be able to just install GT4 off disc in the PS2 to the HDD, cause it has dual layer support?

    Help?

good luck man, I want to play GT4 and GOW my self, but one think these forums lack is a FAQ after someone figures out how to do things. Most people bitch about "did you search?" etc... well if we didn't have to read through 10 pages of confusing post and had a faq here this forum would be much better place. I'd do it in a heart beat but I"m a noob myself and trying to learn a little at a time, but it's hard with all this info here and no orginization whatsoever, by the original poster (updates) or and moderators.

On the other hand people here are very helpful and there is plenty of them that can help you out with your problem. But you have to be specefic or else they will tell you to go "search" :P

if you want the latest patched version of HDLoader which would be 0.7c then search for this term in google "HDLoader 0.7c" and the 2nd link is the site that you can find this file in their download section.

See I couldn't help you with the whole thing, just a part of it

I know how you feel, i was once in your position and while i wouldn't have a clue where to start on what the likes of crazyc, Zero X, G and dlanor do for the scene, i have learn't alot about what goes on here.

Firstly, don't even bother trying to get GT4 working with your HDLoader, you need to source the original HDLoader elf file thats out there somewhere, this is the main single file that replaces your full CD, once you find this file you need to apply the lastest HDL_Patches which are available on this forum.

Once you have a patched version of the original elf file you then ideally need to get it on to your memory card. You can do this by using a PS2 app called ExecFTPs 0.69 and a PC app called FlashFXP, but you'll need the 2 machine networked. There are other ways of getting the app on the memory card, but someone else will have to help you with that one.

For what its worth, once you get the original HDLoader elf and patch it, you may aswell dump the CD because it can't be changed, and the guys mentioned above have made so many advancement to it that are need to play newer games.

You may also want to search for HDL_AIO 2.5.3, this is a GUI for patching HDLoader elf. Currently 2.5.3 has an older version of HDLPATCH with it, but if you download the latest one HDLPATCH 0.7c you can rename it and replace the one that comes with 2.5.3

You'll also need to know how to install GT4 to the HDD once you have the fully patched version of HDL working.

Because GT4 is a dual layer game you can't just install GT4 via HDLoader by putting the DVD in the PS2, you'll have to transfer it to the HDD another way.

You'll need to create an image on your PC Hard Disk of the GT4 DVD using DVDDecrypter. Once you have this image you need to install it onto the PS2 HDD. You can use WinHIIP or HDL_Dump to do this. If you use WinHIIP you'll need to connect your PS2 HDD to the PC. With HDL_Dump you can transfer the image over the network but be warned it is SLOW...

You don't appear to mention if your PS2 is chipped. If it isn't you will need to use one of the exploit methods to boot the patched HDLoader. There is an expliot tutorial Here (Exploit Tutorial for the Total N00B! v1.3).

If you have a chip then it is possible to burn a CD to run HDL. You should be able to find posts around here on how to do that, or if your chip supports Dev1 or Dev2 modes you can run HDL either from the memory card or HDD.

Hope thats pointed you in the right direction.

Edit: Just thinking about it if you don't have a modded PS2 you may be able to install the new HDL using your pressed HDLoader, like you do a game. It's been mentioned on the forums a few times, but I'm not sure if it is possible or not. Someone else may be able to answer that...

what if the set is modded, but it does not support dev1/2, would that mean i would need to use the exploit to install, so that it can be launched on the mem card? which method should i use to install launch elfs etc on the mem card?

If it's modded but doesn't support dev1/2 then you will need to use a CD to boot. You have a lot of choices on exactly how to do it but personally I would put something like launchelf onto the CD. Using launchelf you can then run any program you want from either the memory card or HDD (beats burning a new CD every time a new HDL patch arrives!)

So at this point there is no need for any patches or no extra work for GT4 to work? just tranfster the iso to HDD like any other game and play it using HDloader .07c and all will be well?

i know its hard to search the forum about how to do hdloader on gt4 and etc but there are like 50 pages of post and another 40 of pages that we all have to read but if u had keeped up with the new hdloader then u would know that the new hdloader patch .7d or what ever it is now works with gt4 patch or with out patch i say just use dvd decrpter or what ever it was to burn it into a iso and use the new updated hdl dumb or win hiip to transfer it into ur hdd

As long as you transfer with the more recent version of either WinHIIP or HDL_DUMP/DUMB then you are correct no editing of the ISO is required.

dmdarkmagic: I think the point is a lot of people have not been keeping up on the HDL patches, and are finding their way here because of the dual layer patch. It's not so bad when you've been following the thread as it's created, but arriving at this site to find a 50 odd page thread like that must be a little intimidating, and there is a lot of gunk and misunderstanding within the topic. I can understand why some people are having problems.
