I had to replace my old 40 GB HDD

And wanted to keep what I already had on the old HDD.

I used dd
old HDD located at hdb and new HDD at hdc

dd if=/dev/hdb of=/dev/hdc

to copy everything from the small one to the new one, 200GB, all the old stuff is still there and there is suddenly 151GB free!
