Ok...back to step 1 again
I cant get the indy exploit to run on my ps2. I know if I can just get this to run I can install a patched version of HD loader, and use other homebrew apps.
Back to the big question...how the holy flying monkey do I get this to work without a mod chip, without a swap magic disk and without sharkport? Is it possible at all? Right now I have the indy exploit ISO on my hard drive but cant seem to get it to launch. I was informed by firemaster (thanks btw) that,
"The exploit installer doesn't work from HDL. What you can do is find ExecFTPs, and install that to the HD. With that, you can network to your PS2 and FTP the required exploit files to your memory card from your PC."
So I have execFTP, but sadly I learned the following: (this is from the notes that come with execFTP)
- ExecFTPs is currently tested working with following start-methods:
+Burn disc and boot. (Dont forget to update CONFIG.DAT with your settings and create the disc using cdgenps2.exe and add a large dummy-file to image (like an mp3 or something) (Add all files in rar to disc )).
+Execute from MC using MC-handling prog like *** Explorer or PS2menu.
(Dont forget to update CONFIG.DAT with your settings and transfer EXECFTPS.ELF and CONFIG.DAT to MC-folder)
+It also works to run from HD using ps2menu-k or ***3 HDDExplorer. (didnt try any other app so far..)
+Works to use ps2link(booted from disc or mc) and inlink
Sadly I cannot do any of these in my current situation. (Having no mod chip, no swap magic cd and no sharkport)
It seems like the best way to get from point A to point B is to pick up sharkport, and copy the dang patches I want onto the MC so I can use future editions of HD loader (like the new one that reads DVD9 discs...ooooo) and play games that need patches (like neo contra and viewtiful joe)
Anyone have any input on this? Again thanks.
That exploit installer is just one of many programs that can copy stuff to memory cards. Some do work from HDL, and a new installer can be built around such.

I had just downloaded the swapmagic from limewire and burn it on cd using nero. but when i booted up on my ps2 it get me a "Disc Read Error". do anyone know if i need to convert the files into a image files or use some source of software burn it. any help i would greatly appreciate it. future thank...
You cant boot a burned copy of swap magic without a chip. and at that point theres no point really. unless you have a chip and are trying to do it for some other purpose. so if you are getting a disc read error on that note, i would say you have a bad burn, or a dirty/bad lens
Thank for the info aphexacid. how about hdloader, do i also need a chip for hdloader? i tried to burn the hdloader onto a cd from limewire but it i boot up on the ps2 it get me the same disc read error. any idea might help....thank in advance.
in a nutshell, you cannot play any games, or applications like hdloader or hdadvance that you burn yourself on an un-mod chipped ps2.
there are "tricks" you can do to get cdr's to play, but as far as pop in the disc and load, no sir.
erm, where can i download a patched version or the patch, of hdloader?
I want to connect a 160gb hdd and have a DMS4 Lite Mod...I guess i just put the hdloader iso straight onto the hdd using winhip and boot from the hdd?
Thanks in advance!
That you will have to find yourself.

If I wanted to back up a game that is compatible with the patched version of HDL like Lego Star Wars, can I use Winhiip to install it so it works with the regular HDL? I didn't think so.
OK, first and foremost, I thought that we were noobs here. I see a lot of the dialogue but nothing is written in clear concise terms.
I have the hd loader original disk, the network adapter and also the hd.. I already have games on the hd that I transferred using winhiip. The prob is that when looking at the compatibility of games, on certain sites, I see that there is a hd loader v0.7 that has more compatibility. They say that you use the original disk to load this and so forth. Please point me to the place that shows step by step how to get this to run. I want to get Haunting Ground to work as well as Shadow of the Colossus.. Please..
