how do i put a patch on a game (ex. ghost reacon 2)

I just want to no how to put a patch do i need any special programs. i am running a maxtor 120gb with HDA i got about 11 games so far and if i try to patch up something will my games be erased please help
any reply that wroks will be fine

some are auto patchers and will just patch the iso so you need to rip the game into iso form onto your pc. then just patch it. others have a patch file and a patcher called ppf-o-matic (?) and that also requires you have the iso on PC. once you patch it then you put it on hdd.
