Hello there, this is my first post so please be forgiving.
I'd classify myself as a power user of most things technical. I've dabbled with Linux, I've soft modded my Wii and I've monitored home brew on consoles starting with the Dreamcast since about 2002.
So imagine how guilty I feel asking for help with installing a simple hard drive into my PlayStation 2 and getting the bugger to run HDLoader.
I bought a memory card cheap off ebay with FreeMcboot and HD Loader (unsure of what version) preinstalled. The price of the memory card was only a little over what it would normally cost so I wasn't ripped off.
I've also bought two network adapters (thinking the first one was a dud) and two Maxtor hard drives (again, thinking the first one was a dud...). One of the discs is 80gb and the other is 200gb. I've even bought another Playstation 2 to try that... and yup I'm still stuck.
FreeMcBoot starts up fine, I select HD Loader and then after a few seconds I either get "Hardware Error Hard Drive not detected" or the "Loading..." splash screen does not disappear.
I've tried tightening, and loosening the network adapters. I've also tried all the different jumper settings on the hard drives, and also formatting them in advance with WinHIIP. And so far nothing.
Could it be the memory card's copy of hd loader is at fault? Is there a secret trick I'm missing? Are all the parts I've bought actually crap? (Unlikely I know.)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
