i have read and read and read but I still dont get it. this is what I got: a ps2 v5(unmodded) so it cant read burned discs.
a network adapter, a maxtor 160 gb and the original hdloader.
how do I make a patched hdloader and can I make it work on the unmodded ps2? please help because I just cant understand what to do.

have you got your ps2 connected to a pc? you will need some way of FTP the new moded hdloader.elf file.
use the attached program. first click on pack/unpack, select unpack elf, load your hdloader.elf and select either sjuncrunch or ps2-unpacker and hit unpack.
you should now have an UNPACKED.ELF file. return to the main GUI select patches, 48 bit patches.
select which options you want. click LOAD and select the UNPACKED.ELF file you just created. HIT PATCH. you should now have a file called OUTFILE.ELF.
now go back and select PACK/UNPACK , and select PACK HDL/HDA. in the new window select load and choose OUTFILE.ELF, and choose any loading address (not sure which is the best one to choose). now select PACK. you should now have a file called PACKED.ELF.
all you need to do is rename the PACKED.ELF to HDLOADER.ELF and ftp it to your memory card.

I know this sounds a bit long winded but I hope it helps you,

andysquiz, the program won't repack the ELF file, it does everything else but pack.

    Running WinXP.

if you are just going to boot off of the disc there is no need to repack. if you are going to run off the memory card then you will need to repack. search for a post on the searchbar up above for a post called super simple elf patching, extract the zipfile into a folder on your desktop. drop the elffile on the packelf batchfile. that should work. later. david.
