  1. #1 help with hdloader install please

    Hi
im a total ps2 newbie, doing this on behalf of my lads xmas present .
just opened the new (large type)ps2 with matrix chip and hdd kit today (xmas day).
chip works fine, but have probs with the hdd kit and hdloader.
hdloader just repeats that it cant find a hard drive . tried reseting it, as the details say "its not unusual for the first run to report no hdd, but it will format next boot up/reset."
i left the hdloader disc in , but the ps wont let me reset , it keeps switching off altogether. then boots till it gets back to the hdloader screen and says same message again does this sound normal .

its a hitachi 120 gb drive, but it makes a "clicking" noise before it spins up, then when the hdloader splash screen appears, the hdd goes back to "clicking" any suggestions please, as i said, im totally newbie to ps2 .

make sure you set the hdd to master by changing the jumper setting
PS2 Specs - v7, 120GiG, LaunchELF MC Exploit w/ HDL, InfoNES, Execftp, PS2OS, and PS2Menu-K (all from HD)

    PSP Specs - PSP-1000k, 256mb Duo Pro

Maybe try checking the connection between the adapter and the harddrive, make sure its plugged in all the way?

tried that ,thanks, checked connection between hdd and adapter, and connection between adapter and ps2 , both seem good fits.
i have a feeling its the hdd, the "clicking" noise cant be correct surely

ok a bit hard to understand but i think i got it...it can either be set as master or cable select depending on the hdd. the clicking noise i think would be from the ps2 laser and not the hdd. either calibrate it with a guide somewhere or try booting a game instead of hdloader disc. see if it has that clicking noise also. it could also be normal since some hardware have been known to do weird shit.

im also definately sure its the jumper settings but just in case, stick it in your pc with it set to slave and format with winhiip then stick it back in ps2. make sure you turn your power off when you connect and disconnect hdd from PC.

ok a lighter note...a modded ps2 and HDL set hmm? dam thats nice...

i would say give the memcard exploit a whirl it will let you start everything using a psx game which might work for you then just put hdadvanced it the exploit i would say use keylauncher IM me over aim, Y! or msn and i will hook you up with all the files yo uneed to do a fat keylauncher ... you will need to make your own title.db file but i can help you through that

Update: confirmed today , the HDD is knackered, this was the cause of the problem and the clicking . the supplier was excellent about it , new drive fitted, and i havent seen my lad since.
