I just got my hdloader and 120 gb maxtor hdd. It came in a nice little package from *************.com ....blah blah blah. The installation was pretty easy and i saved NBA Live 2005 on my hd BUT when i tried to play it from my hd the screen went black and nothing happened...I looked in the manual and it said you had to set the hdd to "master" and not "slave"... i have no idea what to do...

    PLEEEEZ HELP!

When HD Loader loads up highlight NBA Live 2005 and press Select on your control pad. You should see Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3 and they will all be disabled, highlight Mode 3 and press X button to enable it, then press Select. This will return you to your Menu screen and you should be able to start your game.

Not all games require this to be done and some utilise more than one Mode but there a plenty of compatibility lists on the net to help you with this.

    Hope this helps.

look on the top off your maxtor hdd drive there should be a picture of some pins which are located on the drive. just look for which says MASTER and make sure that the drive has a shorting block where the picture states. normally the drive will be set to MASTER or CS.
I do fully agree with Cyberskunk about the mode setting though, search this site for compatability charts, there are several links.

Your HD is definately set to MASTER or else you wouldn't have been able to save the game on there in the first place (assuming you transfered the game using the PS2). The PS2 wont recongise the HD at all if it's set to SLAVE.

if we're talking about mgs3, press circle ... not x ... (I know it may sound like a simple problem if thats the case, but you'd be amazed at the # of people I've seen sit there for hours hitting x and can't figure out the deal)

Tricky one that Metal Gear Solid 3.. LOL.. just kidding.. For some reason most japanese game manufacturers like to use the O instead of X as their execute button.

    For Starwars Battlefront go here

That was the standard when the PS1 came out, X for Cancel and Circle for Accept. SCEA changed that sometime between the release of FFVII and FFVIII and so games often get the controls reversed during localization because of SCEA's requirements.

The Japanese way makes more sense to me for multiple reasons. When making written choices, you often circle what you want, or cross out what you don't. Also, a lot of people made the transition to the PlayStation from the SNES, which had A as Accept and B as Cancel with a few exceptions, and the A button was where Circle is, and the B button was where X is.
