HDLoader and slide card
HDLoader and slide card –
08-03-2004,11:42 PM
Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Maybe no one has tried it yet, but here it goes...
When asking around if HDLoader loads backed up games or homebrews, you get a resounding "no, not without a chip". Thanks to Kamatari's guide on how to install the exploit, http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24477 I discovered that you can indeed install backed up games and other proggies via this method. He inspired me to make my own slide card, just for shits and giggles. ( sorry, I know how you all feel about slide cards, but I don't want to mess with soldering my baby! Didn't actually think it would work anyways. lol) He has instructions on how to make your own card. Thanks man!!
1. Boot up HDLoader
2. Go to "install" and it will bring up the "insert cd\dvd" screen. DO NOT hit the eject button.
3. Use slide card to do it's thing, insert whichever cd\dvd you wish, then close the drive back up and use the slide card to lock it in.
4. Click on the "continue" button, and proceed as normal.
Once again, sorry if this is already known, but I sure couldn't find any info on it personally. It appears that when HDLoader tells you it's checking the cd\dvd, it's not checking the region or boot info, just the size info, etc. The check happens when you hit eject and insert a new disc. I successfully installed the exploit, (to save my disc from getting all scratched up, no way I'm getting rid of it!), along with my backup of Rez, and MystIII. All are running perfectly. The exploit installation is kinda touchy, but after the second try around, it was successful.
*When installing exploit cd w\HDLoader, install as a normal game, when finished, do not eject the burnt disc, just start whichever image you saved it as w\cd still in. It seems to need some info off the cd you burned. make sure you have a minimum of 2mb free on mem card. ( for some reason, it doesnt actually take 2mb, just needs that for the installation ) I have a V7 NTSC with no mod, 160 gig Maxtor.

vinnie: thanks for the post. That is why we include the slidecard tool with the hdloader you never know when it might come in handy.

Right on. good to know. My HDLoader came with just the disc. Awful nice o' ya to ship those complimentary. Wonder why more people don't know about\talk about this? Also with the emu's out there, I noticed they need to still have the disc in too, due to file requests within the emu programming. But will still install to hd via hdlaoder. it just doesnt request the rom info from the hd. Which is why the exploit cd needs to remain in to create the mem card save I guess.

Which homebrews have you installed Vinnie? This method sounds great...I haven't checked out what's out there yet. Which homebrews would be useful to someone without a modchip(such as myself)?

Well, the extent of what I have, are all the DMS tools, (really the only useful one to non-chipped users is the format tool, as the ps2mnu can do everything else, including get your pgen files to the hdd), hdloaderlite, pgen, snes-(cant read files from hdd yet), and gsv2.3. It's pretty handy!

Does it need the cd you burned in every time you start the game or just the first time around?

For just backed up games, just the first ti,e to install it. If you're using a homebrew like snes for example that uses requests from cdrom0:, you need to have the burnt cd in each time you want to play it. (that also goes with installing any exploit off a cd) but backed up games will work like any other game loading via HDL
