HDLoader reads "coasters" ??
Well, I have a very old and highly used PS2 with a Matrix Infinity. The old gal has been good to me over the years but is definitely showing signs of nearing the end. To try and preserve my laser, I bought a nice, big hard drive and have been using HDLoader to backup my games. Since I'm anal-retentive I also make DVD backups of all my games so the originals are kept in good shape.
Recently, I got a good deal on some DVD+R's so I burned a couple games to test them out. Sadly, upon putting them in the drive, the PS2 just sat at the "reading disc" screen forever and I could hear some really *nice* sounds. I finally popped the disc out and, as expected, there were several scratches from where the laser was trying to read the disc.
The funny thing is, if I load up HDLoader and then pop in the burned discs and choose "Install" it is able to fully install the game at normal speed and with 0 read errors. When you first put in the disc and HDLoader analysis it, it's just as fast with these new backups as with my other backups and originals!
Does HDLoader set the laser to higher power or something? It doesn't make any sense to me that these discs won't boot but HDLoader can read them fine. Other than tweaking my laser, is there something I can do - maybe a mod chip setting or something - that will get the discs to boot. Obviously the discs aren't bad since HDLoader can read them fine but some of them are games that crash when playing from the HD, so I'd like to get them to boot from DVD.
Thanks in advance!
