HDLOADER problems....Syntax? –

PS2 V9, infinity mod. Maxtor 80GB HDD. I am having alot of problems running HDLOADER off of the HDD. I have loaded it several different ways and no luck. I usually get a red screen. I boot to MC0 with HDloader in CD0 then transfer it to HDD _boot/BOOT.ELF. I have tried this several different times. I also tried it with ULE and that seemed to work. Am I supposed to transfer the System.CNF into the HDD as well. Lost for what to do any advice would help.
Am I missing something.
p.s I formatted with Winhiip, I also tried formatting in ULE. no difference.

In order to boot any program directly from "hddo:/__boot/boot.elf" you must have a mod-chip that supports such booting, as the PS2 itself does not. Apparently you do have such a chip, if it is the Matrix Infinity you refer to, and if you use a sufficiently modern firmware.
Even with such a mod-chip, you must also run a special installer to activate the disk booting ability. For the MI chip you will find a suitable installer on the Matrix home page.
After such installation you can remove *all* visible files that were installed (the important thing is not a file at all, so don't worry, you can't remove it). You can then install the ELF you want to "hdd0:/__boot/boot.elf" with good expectations of having it work. But I still don't think HDLoader will work that way, as it has been a bit 'picky' about abnormal launch methods in the past, and Dev2 is quite abnormal, following no homebrew standards.
Programs with good launch compatibility such as uLE will work with Dev2, but more sensitive ones may not as they expect homebrew launch methods.

I think I am following what you are saying. I have tried installing HDLOADER via DEV2 from the Infinity homsite. I can then veiw that "BOOT.ELF" stored at HDD0: _boot/BOOT.ELF from ULE. And it still doesn't boot. I have tried holding down L1 during boot and get the red screen, I have tried running it on HDD0 from MC0, and I have tried booting using DEV1 in the infinity manager. It seems like it is a bad copy of HDLOADER I would prefer to use HDLOADER as my boot file instead of ULD because I did this for my kids and I want them to be able to read the names of the games they want to play. I am wondering if there is something I am not doing right.
Thanks

correction for last post: "I have tried booting using DEV1 in the infinity manager" DEV2. "instead of ULD because I did ..." ULE.
What does the red screen mean?
latest firmware V1.8

thanks dlanor, I finally figured it out. Even though it doesn't make sense, I used the DEV 21 48 bit for the infinity boot tool. I also used HDLOADER version 8b. After that everything worked fine. I thought the 48bit hdloader was only intended for HDD over 128GB, but oh well. Thanks for your help
