hdloader problem with v5 ps2

My brother has a v5 PS2 that has hdloader loading off the memory card and games loaded off the hdd on that machine load very slowly and skip frequently during gameplay. It had a no solder modchip in it that I removed but made no difference. I tried his network adapter and hard disk in my v4 ps2 and everything was fine and I tried a patched and unpached hdloader but it made no difference. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

sounds like maybe a connection problem... i'm not really sure. i haven't heard of this yet with the hdd working fine in your ps2...

I have a v5 PS2 that doesn't like reading DVD or CDr and works 100% perfect with HD

Looks like the hdd is the problem after all.
