PS2 Format Drive
_mbr [128MB] = Master Boot Record, required by HDL
_net [128MB] = required for network access?
_system [256MB] = ?
_sysconf [512MB] = system configuration?
_common [1024MB] = common?
_boot [512MB] = required to boot ELF files
_main [0MB] = extra partition for ELF files?
HDLoader Settings [128MB] = required by HDL
I've been searching everywhere, and I still don't have an answer for this. My problem is I only have a 20GB drive and want to free up as much space as possible. Knowing what each partition is for would help me decide what to keep or not to keep.
The only info in WinHIIP's help file is: "When formatting a drive for HDLoader it is quite acceptable to reduce all the partition sizes to 0Mb, except the "__mbr" & "HDLoader Settings" partitions, as these are not required for HDLoader to work correctly." But this doesn't answer how setting it to zero will affect other applications.
I searched this forum and the closest to answering this was at this thread, but it was closed with reason: bumping old threads or not reading the rules.
If this was bumped from an old thread, where is this older thread? I read the rules and I don't understand where this is against the rules... because they posted in the wrong forum or something?
If it is against the rules to ask this question then please explain why. Otherwise, does anyone know the answer to this question?
I have been searching the answer for hours on end.. still no answers. My only hope was to find this info at ps2dev.org, but my ISP doesn't allow me to access it or the site is down, and I can't read the info I found on German forums.
you need __mbr __boot and hdloader settings only
most of the partitions are used by the official sony hdd by games that officially support the hdd.
if you dont have a sony hdd they are completely useless
Thanks for replying. I also just realized I was searching using _common or _sysconf, when it's actually __common or __sysconf (double _'s). Now I can save space for another game or two.
