Hi. I've been reading off these forums for a couple months and I still am unclear about the MC exploit. I have an unmodded PS2 using the MC exploit that my friend installed for me. Another one of my friends want me to perform the MC exploit on his hard drive, and I was wondering if it is possible. His PS2 is unmodded so instead of creating a boot disc, I thought I could just copy files of the boot disk onto my HDD using ps2menu-k and transfer them onto his memory card. Will this work? If not, how can I do it without any swap trick. Thanks.

Why not just copy the system file from your memory card? Using Browse of the original PS2 with no disc in tray.
I believe everything is in the PS2 icon of your memory card?

Or do you have blue corrupted boxes among your savegames, it might be in there too? The problem is whether he has the same PS1 game as you boot from.

You can't do that. When you try to copy it, it says corrupted data and doesn't let you copy. My question was if I could use my pc to install the boot disk files to a cd and copy it into the HD using ps2menu-k and then transferring it into the memory card. Is it the same thing as using a boot disk? Thanks.

With the memory card exploit, there is no boot disc ... the disc you use is just a standard PS1 game. The "exploit" is on the memory card ... not on the hard disk, nor the CD you use when booting.

To install the exploit onto another memory card, you need a modded PS2 to run the exploit installer. Get your "friend that installed it for you" to make another memcard.

So to install the exploit on the memory card, I can't use ps2menu-k? My friend that installed it is away at school and I only have an unmodded ps2. Is there anyway for an unmodded ps2 to install it, even though I already have the exploit in my ps2. Sorry if I was confusing.

i don't know what exploit you did, but i installed the independance exploit via swap magic, and have simply copied the system file to my other 4 mem cards...there is no corrupted data error here.

You should be able to copy "Your System Configuration" file from your memory card to your friends memory card, if you can't, you could try the method you have described. In others words,

    1. Copy the "TITLE.DB" and "BOOT.ELF" files from the "BADATA-SYSTEM" (if your ps2 is NTSC) to your HDD using PS2menu.
    2. Then go back to your memory card and select the "BADATA-SYSTEM" as your copy to directory (pressing triangle).
    3. Go to your HDD, change your memory card for the other memory card and copy the "TITLE.DB" and "BOOT.ELF" files back to memory card.

If you try to go back to see the files in the memory card you would not see anything, but the files should be there, restart your ps2 with your exploit cd (PS1 disc) and see if it load. Remember that if your friend is not going to use the same exploit cd as you, you would have to make a new TITLE.DB file. The method describe is using PS2menu (not ps2menu-k) because I haven't use ps2menu-k, but it should work with ps2menu-k too.

My friend has a US PS2. Is there a TITLE.DB file specifically made for this unit? I opened the one I'm trying to install for him, and it says towards the bottom of the file "mc0:/BRDATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF" shouldn't this be "mc0:/BADATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF"? Cuz right now, all I get is a black screen when putting the PS1 disk on his PS2 w/ the memory exploit.
