  1. #1 HDLoader keeps formatting HD
    MooG Guest
For about a week now ive been trying to copy backups onto my ps2 HD but each time i insert it into the ps2 it wants to format it!

Ive tried different ways of formatting, drives, etc but no luck.

I have managed to format the HD using WinHIIP, then copy the games using Handiness. Once done, I put the HD into my ps2 and all ok! Wow. BUT if i copy my backups onto it again using my pc then put it back into my ps2 it wants to format again Aarrrrgggghhhhhhh!!

Please, somebody help. Its driving me mad.

I am having exactly the same issue that you are having using my v3 w/Magic 3.1, a OEM network/modem adapter, and a IBM 40G drive. Up until this point, I haven't been able to find anyway to get it to work at all. If I setup using DMS formatter or HDLoader it simply wants to reformat every time it loads. Same thing if I setup the drive with WinHIIP and then try to extract files to it using the WinHIIP tool. I am going to try your method of using Handiness to see if that will work for me.

Do you have any common features with my PS2 setup?

    Erm....
The only thing common is the HD. Ive used an 80gig IBM, and 60 gig maxtor and a 40gig samsung, all the same results. My network adaptor is a retail one without a modem and my ps2 is unmodded.

The frustration is killing me. I hope somebody knows how to rememdy this.
Ive scanned loads of forums but no solutions :o(

HDLoader has been known to not work properly with the BBAs that don't have the modem...I think I read that on the official HDL FAQ a while ago.

Unfortunately I am having the same problem and I have the network adapter with both network/modem. I have basically given up now since regardless of what method I use (tried all PS2 & PC HDD Utils) everytime I start either the DMS tools or HDLoader it informs me that it must be reformatted.

you problem is probably that you aren't gettinga clean connection. i had this once, and the problem was loose connectors. it can be hard to get non official hds to stick properly sometimes.

In my case, it always wants to reformat. For example, I use the DMS tool or HDLoader to format, it says it completes successfully, hit reset, and the next time either tool loads it wants to reformat again. Same thing happens if I format it on my PC with WinHIIP and then use either HDLoader or HDAdvance MC to boot.

As for the flaky connection, I have made sure everything is tight as far as the power/IDE to the HDD and the explansion connector to the network/modem adapter. I could see this might be the problem if it couldn't detect the drive, but it does and supposedly thinks it formatted it correctly.

I am totally confused as to what the problem is. In MooG's case he can sometime get it to work, but I have yet to have ANY luck even after trying several different 40G HDDs (Maxtor, Quantum, IBM, and a Seagate [20G only]).

I had the same problem and I finally went out and bought another adapter. I plugged it in and it is working great now. I would try a friends adapter maybe yours is messed up like my old one.
