Well, since my original post, I did indeed install and run the HDLoader from my HDD using PS2Menu-K, but I really wanted it to run completely off of the HDD, without having to launch PS2Menu-K from the memory card (still having to use the memory card....)

But I did do more research on it since then, and like moditripit just said, it doesn't exactly work well or something with hdloader.

Located on the DMS forums there was a thread asking pretty much the same question I did, and several people came to the conclusion that:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because of IRX dependency, anything that needs IRX modules to run will not work off the HDD.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

For that reason, you can run HDLoader and PS2Menu-K from the memory card fine, but you can't run them from the DMS HDD explorer. And you can't launch PS2Menu-K to launch HDLoader without using the memory card to launch PS2Menu-K.

(Sorry about the long post, but I figured this might help someone...)

i was able to run HDLoader from the HDD... how? i used PS2MNU-K to copy HDLOADER to the HDD and execute from there... it will boot as long as i have a disk inside since i have a v9, it will stay black if there are no disks...

what im tryin to figure out is how to replace the DMS HDD Explorer w/ HDLOADER... the DMS HDD ELF is somewhere in the "__boot" partition... so im guessing that replacing that w/ HDLOADER ELF will work using DEV2 for us DMS users...

Yeah, I mean you can run the HDLoader from the HDD, but you are still dependent on the memory card to run PS2Menu-K.

From what I understood, the reason you have to have a disc in when running HDLoader, is because of a newer system's double check.... What version is your PS2, blisstik?

But the idea about replacing the DMS HDD Explorer with HDLoader.... now that's a interesting idea....

interesting... you can replace your memory card explorer with HDD loader. this way you can set auto boot to Dev.1 and it will auto boot into hd loader

use execFTPs on PS2 side, when ur set, use FlashFXP client to connect, go to /mc/0/BOOT and replace the BOOT.ELF with HDLOADER renamed to BOOT.ELF

    **OR**

if you don't want keep BOTH files in the /mc/0/BOOT folder, download the MENU.TXT and do some editing

    **OR**

use PS2MNU-K instead of using execFTPs, but you wont be able to edit the MENU.TXT file...

    Cool....

But I agree with you Blisstik, I would like to use the HDLoader with my ps2 independent of the MC (explorer).

Maybe soon someone can figure out a way to load it up from the DMS HDD explorer, where you don't need to use MC space, and it is still just as quick to boot....
