I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 - one of these: http://ps2drives.x-pec.com/?p=drive&did=1789 but HDLoader 8C locks up at the splash screen. I can hear the hard drive spin up and a yellow light somewhere goes on, so it's trying to do something. I have the drive set to Master.
could be the hdl game list is corrupted. try deleting that inthe hdloader partition using uLE. if that doesn't do the trick, try using the scan/repair in winhiip.
what version is your ps2? could be an incorrectly patched copy you have.
My PS2 is a V7. This hard drive has never been used on a PS2 before, so it has the old NTFS partition I don't need anymore. I was under the impression that HD Loader would format the HDD for me. Is this wrong?
PS2 deals with fat32 ..your hard disk you should be formatted using WinHIIP 1.7.6 thats if you want to use it for ps2
As far as I can tell, the PS2 only uses the PFS file system on internal hard disc drives. FAT32 is only used on removable USB devices.Quote:

Yes, actually HD Loader should have asked to format the drive. But since it is a used HDD and has probably been used in a PC, it is best to use Winhiip as others suggested and format it properly using the correct format for the size drive your using (28bit for 137GB or smaller, 48bit for over 137GBs).Quote:

This has happened few times for me, the network adaptor is incorrectly installed, too tight or too loose or there's dust. Try to wiggle the adapter there if it helps, and bowl the dust off.
And take note how you format your HDD with WinHIIP, it suggests using Toxic OS as default. Use HDLoader 48bit.
Dunno what is the difference between these, never tested, never needed to. But to be sure :)
